5Z91 is on the move again this morning with another Mk4 stock move from Bounds Green to Doncaster and then on to Worksop.

This looks to be 82217 and the remains of BN28 (Coaches BFHL). The rest of the coaches in the set had already been scrapped or stored.

I believe that that leaves the following with LNER:-
15 x Class 91s
11 x Full Mk4 sets
1 x Spare DVT (82224)
1 x Spare TOE (Coach B - 12200)
I have sets BN3,5,6,7,8,10,12,15,17,26. but I have BN13 to Worksop with no date, lost track of the set formations of late, I managed to delete a whole spreadsheet and recovers an older one. (Tip: let go of the mouse when about to sneeze)

I agree with your list.

BN13 & DVT 82213 remain with LNER, making 11 sets.

82219 & BN03 are on route to Worksop for storage this morning, running under the headcodes 5Z91 & 5Z92 as normal.

So that's now 9 x full Mk4 sets + 13 x Class 91s left with LNER.

I recall reading that 10 Mk4 sets are required for the Dec 2021 timetable, but that once the initial batch of Azumas has all been delivered, only 4 x Mk4 sets will be required for service for the 12 months prior. So I assume some of these sets at Worksop may return to LNER at a later date.

Can anyone confirm this remains the plan?

The plan you outline above was the pre COVID-19 plan, as an industry we are still trying to work out what post COVID-19 looks like, one thing that is certain is demand has been dented, for how long nobody has a crystal ball so it’s impossible to say what rolling stock may or may not come out of store - there isn’t a plan set in stone. A bit like the airlines and their stores jumbo planes.

So far sets BN01/02/04/09/11/14/16/18-25/27-30 have been off leased with BN03 and (now) BN07(?) also stopped at Worksop. It may be that LNER will be rotating sets into and out of store as required to even out mileage on the remaining sets and avoid doing C4 overhauls on some sets until needed.

Interestingly with the 91s, only 91103/104/108/117/120/122/128 so far show as off leased.

Thanks both for the replies. Appreciate that future plans are very much up in the air at present, with the reduced demand causing considerable uncertainy on the way forward across the industry.

Interesting to hear that such a small proportion of the 91s are actually off lease - sounds like the earlier departures and those which are currently based in Leicester. I suspect many of those not listed are parked up at Doncaster, awaiting work!

As it stands, I’d be surprised if any locos/sets which have actually left LNER are returned to them for their use in the future.

That said, a week is a long time in both Politics and the Railway!

Newcastle Thunderbird set to be withdrawn in November. One can assume this will be when the 225s are relegated to the Leeds and York workings.

If their is to be no thunderbird on standby, what will happen if an Azuma say has a complete failure?.

Another set will be dispatched to rescue it. Which will of course always work and has never so far failed and required the summoning of the Thunderbird anyway...

Do you know if the Azuma's can couple to anything else or are they only compatible with other azuma's or maybe nova's?.
Anything with the same coupler, although I forget the name of which specific coupler it is.

Same coupler and same height coupler.
Of course, as well as their being multiple couplers used accross the network, some of them are at different heights because otherwise that would be too easy

They are Dellner 10s at 1025mm ARL. So on the ECML would be any other Class 80x. 22x are Dellner 12s at 1025mm a different coupler head all together.

If the eurostars where still on the ECML they could couple mechanical to them no problem!

Please excuse my ignorance, but does that mean another two 91's will be removed from traffic, or is it just the mk4 sets?.
91121 and 91126 were removed from traffic a few days ago, with BN07 stored today.

Thanks for that, is it just me or does it seem like only yesterday the IC 225 sets were introduced. I'm really going to miss them when they're gone, i think they gave the ECML its individuality back.(that it had when the Deltics were in service).

No I'm 35 this year and I can remember when they were new, then in GNER colours (suited the 225s so well).

The thing i really liked about the GNER livery were the cast plaques that they fitted to the sides of some of the mk4's till they changed them to stickers.

BN10 (82205 - the "Flying Scotswoman") has apparently had its last day in service today; 1Y90 from York to King's X was allegedly its final working. BN05 (82210) was hauled north by 66717 as 5Z91 to Doncaster (and thence as 5Z92 to Worksop) today too.

Additionally, the following coaches have been removed from Worksop by road to Sims Metals at Hull.
Ex-BN19, in alphabetical order of coach lettering: 12400, 12470, 11290, 11419.
Ex-BN20: 11241, 11420.
Ex-BN21: 12441, 12476, 11244, 11421.
Ex-BN22: 12460, 12473, 11291, 11422.

Note that ex-BN20 coaches D/E (12439/12440) are still apparently at Doncaster Works (ZB), although I don't yet know if they've moved since.

Don’t you mean “in numerical order”? ;)
