It appears that, as per usual, LNER are running Saturday Diversions between Newcastle and Edinburgh via Carlisle this September/October. First Date is Saturday 14th September. No 91/MkIV's this year, but instead the first Azuma pax services on the TVL, and up from Carlisle via WCML.

Whilst all trains are now in the LNER booking engine, with reservations open, can somebody please confirm if the stocks used on 1S04 and 1E21 are correct - these seem to depart from the same platform, and don't have corresponding movements to/from Craigentinny.

I have attached diagrams for Northbound and Southbound services on Sat 14 - presume these will stay the same for all Saturdays the diversions are taking place.

Just booked a trip for Saturday to Newcastle and it appears the east coast diversions are on, any idea how many weeks?

Far more comfortable than playing 142 roulette!

It's Saturdays only, according to RTT it is every week until 12th October.

(here are the diagrams I produced for the LNER services).

Just seen 1E21. It is an Azuma, not an HST. Apologies for the mistake.

Any help would be great. Thank you.

Edinburgh drivers to Carlisle then Newcastle drivers to Newcastle and onto London, same applies in reverse as route knowledge limits Edinburgh drivers to Carlisle and Newcastle drivers to Carlisle where the diverts are concerned.

We bumped into 800103 at Carlisle yesterday which was a surprise, but made sense after seeing the many many spotters along the Hadrian's Wall line

Is that right? I thought both Edinburgh and Newcastle crews signed the whole route. Must mean some taxis for early and late trains required.

Edinburgh and Newcastle both sign via Dunbar but they only sign as far Carlisle for the diverts and that was confirmed by a driving source I know at Edinburgh.

I was not the only person driving along the A69 just to the west of Haltwhistle to do a double take on Saturday lunchtime 14th September 2019 (at about 1235) when an Azuma in LNER livery on the Tyne Valley overtook us ...

Is this what I saw ???

800106 passing through Wetheral after coming off the viaduct with the first ever passenger Azuma service over the Tyne Valley, on 1S04 to Edinburgh - 14/9/19 .

Newcastle Drivers sign Newcastle - Carlisle.
Edinburgh Drivers sign Edinburgh - Carlisle.

Newcastle Guards sign Newcastle - Carlisle.
Edinburgh Guards sign Edinburgh - Newcastle, via Carlisle.

Still a fair few HST operated services this weekend. No drags / 91 via WCML though.

Don't think you need that anymore. As I recall the last time this diversion was done only one Class 91 set operated between Newcastle and Carlisle at a time as only one Class 67 was in operation. Presumably that diagram has been replaced by Azuma(s) and the other diagrams remain diesel traction - either HSTs (or Azumas).

Can someone confirm whether the diversions will run on some Sundays as mentioned further up the thread as conflicting posts say Saturdays only
thanks

NB it may be that there is also no service Newcastle-Berwick-Edinburgh on Sundays but there are just bus replacements rather than proper diversions.

All weekend this weekend, then Saturdays only. The dates have been posted in this thread.

Does anyone have any idea whether Bardon Mill signalbox will be switched-in during diversion weekends now that the ordinary service has doubled in frequency?

Depends what the possession says but unless the possession refers to it as needing to be then unless the timetable in RTT (and elsewhere) shows it then it won't be switched in.
