Now maybe I'm being a bit slow here (happened before...) but I don't understand.

Currently 12 EMR NL HSTs, 3 sets moving from LNER to replace them - how will that work?

9 sets moving, 3 PB and 6 Angel, to replace the 9 full size EMR ones.
5 180s to replace the 3 Angel ex-GC short sets.

Are 43317 & 43367 Angel trains as these are my 2 favourite HSTs and I really hope they get saved.

Yeah, both Angel Trains power cars.
Perhaps Richard Clinnick reads this thread, where it has been discussed since last Friday, when HamworthyGoods posted the same info...
Hadn't seen that post unfortunately, and I do like to sometimes see things posted on here confirmed externally.

Thank you for the info. Really hope 43367 & 43317 are part of the 6 Angel trains sets to go to East Midlands railway

Just a reminder this thread is about LNER HST withdrawals.

Feel free to create a new thread to discuss anything else, and feel free to link to it here if you think it is relevant :)

EC64 working 1S27 17.30 KGX-EDB tonight. Due for withdrawal tomorrow (Monday) with debranding at Craigentinny.

Set (trailers only) are booked to move to Swansea for scrap next Saturday (23rd).

Does anyone know if the scrap move has taken place today?

Incidentally I was on EC64 only about three weeks ago. The Mk.3 I was in still looked pretty fresh after the recent(ish) VTEC mini refurbishment...

Sounds like EC56 with 43295 and 43319 went to Doncaster West Yard after operating 1D26 18:03 Kings Cross - Harrogate last night. Not certain as to what it's doing there - preparation for EMR perhaps?

A repaint into blue/grey apparently.

So a repaint for a few days use on a charter. That’s going to cost well over £100k.

Who’s paying? I rather suspect the answer is taxpayers given LNER is a nationalised operation.

Depends on how its done. If it's a vinyl+paint job like 43002, it'll be considerably cheaper.

If the tour sold out - that's 544 seats over 4 days - even at £50 a day (suspect it'll be more) - that is £108,800 in revenue.

Easy to see how the case could be made financially. The GWR tours made a substantial profit for charity after costs.

Pretty unlikely LNER are paying for the repaint.

Far more likely that the set has been acquired for preservation and the repaint is being funded by the future owners.

I’m intrigued to know of an HST preservation group that has £100k+ to spend on repainting coaches.

EC56 is not one of those listed for transfer.

EC56 contains FO 41170, the former 41001/11002 from the prototype HST set. I've seen a note suggesting that not all of EC56 has moved to Doncaster or stayed at Doncaster - two TSOs not there.

43295/319 are currently taking 42241/244 from Doncaster back to Craigentinny.
