So, I was in Wakefield recently, had some time spare and got a WY Daysaver Train and pottered about for a bit. My ticket back to Peterborough was from Doncaster, so I bought a South Elmsall to Doncaster single and hopped on the same train at Leeds.

Now, there was no ticket check so I've no idea whether this combo was acceptable to LNER. Searching on this forum, it seems far from conclusive, too. I know what NRCoT says, but what is the position "on the ground"?

Couple of side questions - how come there are two Anytime Single fares from South Elmsall to Doncaster? One (£10.10) seems to be set by LNER and the other (£3.40) by SYPTE. Neither has any restrictions. Do LNER make you buy the former? (Not that their ticket machines tell you who sets the fares...)

Finally, has anyone had any luck getting a WY Daysaver issued outside the county? I remember reading reports ages ago, and I know officially it's in W York's only, but wondered if it's something an obliging ticket office would gladly do.

Not sure why the £10.10 fare even exists to be honest, but you'll be prompted to buy the £3.40 one by the TVMs.

In regards to the 14.2 split, I'm not staff, but I really can't foresee any problems with it to be honest. You may possibly have to prompt the guard with the 14.2 condition, but I've successfully done the opposite and used a Leeds to South Elmsall single and a Travelmaster on LNER before.

Thanks - I didn't even think it'd be an issue until I was actually on the train. But I've read of some issues here (admittedly with XC and TP).

As it happened the LNER TVM at Leeds offered both fares, with no way of telling them apart.

Credit where credit is due, I've only had a split of this nature questioned once on TPE. The guard hadn't known about the transition from NRCoC to NRCoT, but once I'd told him about it and shown him he was actually quite interested to learn it.

XC i rarely travel on anymore so i can't comment really :D

Aye, fair comment. I used to do a lot of rather creative splits when I had a season ticket, and never had a problem (this is DOO-land, though).

There were always a couple of VTEC /LNER guards who had a problem with Stevenage and evening peak tickets, mind, but that's a different discussion...

Metro used to have conditions on the Dayrover that on LNER and XC Dayrovers were only valid at stations in West Yorkshire they actually stopped at.

However, I can find no trace of those conditions on their website now.

That's a surprise as the South Yorkshire products are not valid on LNER, as per Knowledgebase:
Knowledgebase said:
RailMaster/SY Connect+ are not valid on London North Eastern Railway trains.

It was a few years ago since I did it.

I think they always said it wasn't officially valid because LNER only stop at one SY stop, but because of 14.2, I'm guessing it is technically valid.

I think this was when it was the Conditions of Carriage, but it changed just after.
