Um, this probably isn't the best place for this topic, but then again, you suggest somewhere better! :P

Right, anyway, a strange one here...

Any idea what real life classes the engines in Thomas the Tank are based on?

We'll start with:

Thomas
Percy
Edward
James
Gordon
Henry
Duck
Diesel
Boco
Daisy
Donald & Douglas

feel free to suggest any other Thomas characters and what classes these may be based on...

Diesel is a gronk, probley the old LMS type
Boco is the old Co-Bos that went ages ago

edward looks like a J39, but i think that donald and duglas

I think that Donald & Douglas are Caleys, while Edward is something like an SE&CR Wainwright :shock:

ISTR "Thomas" was based on an LMS Dock Tank class Q4 or something similar? It's definately not an off-the-shelf-commonplace type like a "Jinty" or something (though Jintys are used commonly in preservation). Sadly "Thomas" in preservation is becoming more and more difficult, with (s)HIT entertainment arguing for more control over every event...
