Last night my paper season ticket got broken by a ticket barrier at Harrow and Wealdstone station. There is one barrier which at least once a month if not more, ruins the data stored on the magnetic strip. I'm not sure who to point this out to.

As I had purchased my last season ticket online from London Midland I thought, great I'm now on their system. Last time this happened they refused to sort it out because I had to go back to the company, South West Trains, who sold me the ticket. That time I had 10 mins free. Fair enough they didn't sell it.

So imagine my surprise when at the London Midland ticket office at Euston they said I wasn't on their system. I said to them but I can't go to your head offices. Any way this time they took my word and entered me into their system. Had I know this before I could have simply lied about where I bought the ticket and they couldn't have proved otherwise.

Given that they are so keen for people to buy season tickets online, I'm amazed the two systems are not linked. After all my season ticket fails once a month at least, every month and I'm sure I'm not alone.

The two systems are totally separate as the website isn't actually run by London Midland, but by Atos Origin, hence why the ticket details aren't available at stations. (Well, they technically are if the office has internet access, though Ticket Office staff are unlikely to have the necessary login details for the "backend" database).

Having said that, you should be able to get an Encode Exchange at ANY Ticket Office, though if it's not one run by the same company it'll take a bit longer as they'll have to enter your details into their Season Ticket Database.

Cheers,

Barry

Your statement is incorrect if the London Midland ticket Clark at Euston station is to be believed. He told me I had to go back to South West Trains. I had 10 minutes before my train left to argue the point but couldn't get any where with him. He was adamant that I had to go back to South West Trains who sold me the ticket. Clearly I'd rather believe you but then you weren't selling me the ticket so I at the time I couldn't.

Clearly it is impossible for me to go back to ATOS though. Wonder what he would have said if I'd told him I bought it online via London midlands Web Site? Would he have told me to go back to the Web Site?

Clearly that would be ridiculous. May be the selling of tickets online should be handed to each company to avoid the system we have in place. Then the ticket clerks would have more weight to their argument when they say you must go back to the company who sold it to you. After all they are only trying to do their job. They don't want passengers arguing with them, no mater how nicely we might argue our point.

Completely untrue.

Not so, a numeric code for the issuing station is included in the information printed on the ticket.
