Exactly! So many sweeping assertions such as "families prefer the 350/2s" ... I'd love to know which families were actually asked or heard saying this?

Whenever me, my partner and young child travel on a 350/2, we head to the declassified first class aera and bag a table!

That said, I try to avoid LNWR where possible to avoid spending over an hour and a half on a 350/2, it'll be a last resort if there is no decent priced Avanti advances...

Just anecdotal. On many occasions on the Crewes and Birminghams I've seen families and groups happily occupying the bays. 350/1s have hardly any bays by comparison.
That is the logical place for them to sit on the train, it does not necessarily mean they would prefer 3+2 seating over 2+2 seating with tables. I don't think the 5 car 730s will have as many seating bays as the 350s.

I think they probably would prefer that, but 350/1, /3 and /4 have relatively few tables, whereas /2s have quite a lot of bays.

Of course they'd occupy the bays given that a significant amount of the seating *is* bays!

I'm sure they happily occupy several airline seats and/or tables on the other 350 subclasses too.

Plenty of tables on the 730/2s and luggage racks in each carriage if I remember correctly. Staff dislike the 350/2 as they are far harder to walk through with people hanging over into the walkway. That and the /2s are what killed the onboard trolley service, something that staff have been pushing to resume once 730/2s enter service

Just a gentle reminder that this thread is for the discussion of LNWR Class 350/2 withdrawals.

If anyone wants to discuss anything else Class 350/2 related then they are welcome to start a new thread elsewhere.

Off lease 350251 + 350244 (both externally de-branded) worked 5J70 Northampton EMD to Wolverton Centre Sidings this morning.
They join 350238 which arrived yesterday at Wolverton Works

The 350/2 shouldn't be going off lease. They need a clean up but should be chugging up and down the southern WCML for many years to come.
Is this going to be a repeat of the class 379 situation? A lot of people thought the 379s would be scrapped but they did eventually move to another TOC.

350244 working a Europhoenix Rail operated 5Z77 Wolverton Centre Sidings to Ardwick TMD this morning. Appears to be some moves to/from Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow for it...

Seeing a lot of differences in branding on the remaining 350/2s

Obvs some are in LNR temporary branding but those that still have ex LM branding seem to be looking a little odd.

Some still have full ex LM branding but others like 350/247 and 250 still have ex LM grey doors but other parts of the ex LM branding have been removed?

Why is the branding being altered now when its still in service?

350244 has just gone through P13 at Man Picc. First time I've seen one of the class here.

Edit.

Just read #42

Any ideas what the moves are around Stoke tomorrow are for? Obviously the unit in question is off lease from WMT so doubt it's anything to do with them.

There was LM 350/3 in manchester during that commonwealth games evenr?? So the livery has been there before atleast.

A number of the TPE mark 4's were re-liveried into LNR colours whilst still with TPE so the livery has definitely been there before. TPE did indeed hire in 350373 and 374 to provide extra capacity during the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Either way - because it’s not really important whether the livery has been to Piccadilly before - what are they doing shuttling around Manchester and Stoke while off lease?

So from a couple of FB forums and piecing info together, road learning seems to be the best bet, either Europhoenix or ROGS. It was planned to run down to Stoke into Platform 3 bay and carry out a number of shunts. 5Z79 at 1205, 5Z81 at 1229 and 5Z83 at 1322. In the event only the first one of the three took place and the 5Z80 move back to Ardwick ran three hours early.
Further mentioned that 244 ran in multiple with 251, and the eventual storage location for these units will be Tyne Yard.

350244 headed back south today as 5Z89 from Ardwick to Wembley Reception Lines.

So what will 350244 go, after it went to Wembley Reception Lines? Will it be staying in the London area or it will move to somewhere else?

Off-lease 350255 and 350231 moved from Camden to Rugby HS today as 5R00

EDIT: Tuesday 5th: A return for one of these two already, most likely 255, which will run Rugby to Bletchley CS in order to be ready to carry out a rescue move later for sister unit 256 which itself suffered what has been called a catastrophic traction motor failure at Watford last night and is currently residing in bay platform 10.

Is 350244 sitting visible from the running lines on the WCML? Just past a 350 sitting on the running line side of the stored 321s. Too dark to see the number! MTIA

No date set yet for the 730/2's to enter service but it wont be for months. No crew training has started yet. Probably well into 2025 before we see them in service.

Battered in what way? I've been on many of them recently and none of them would be described in that way let alone 'somehow got allowed to run'
