If a person has a Zonal Travelcard on paper or loaded on a TOC Smartcard, is it possible for the person to buy a zone extension ticket from a ticket machine at London Underground stations for Underground / DLR journeys?

For example: A zone 1-3 travelcard, with an intention to travel to Harrow-On-The-Hill on Metropolitan Line, which getting off at a zone 3 station seems not very feasible.

(I know that there are boundary zone tickets for NR journeys)

No. And in any event, even if it were possible, I think paying for the full journey by Oyster or Contactless might even be cheaper than a paper ticket for two zones on LU. (Edit: It is – £4.90 for a paper ticket, £4.70 peak or £3.10 off-peak by card.)

If the Travelcard were loaded on an Oyster card, then an extension ticket can be purchased from a London Underground POM. (Although in this instance, it would be cheaper to use PAYG balance for the £1.50 difference.)
