Does anyone know what was "up" and what was "down" on the Charnwood Forest Railway between Loughborough Derby Road and Coalville? The 1889 L&NWR timetable does not say, although the 1922 timetable implies that "up" was from Loughborough towards Nuneaton.

Surely every branch line which ran to a terminus would have "up" as the direction towards the junction ?
Not necessarily, although I expect it was down to Loughborough Derby Road and up away from it.
In much of Wales, lines in valleys are up up the valley and down down the valley.
It is up from Stockport to Buxton LNWR.
