With only one trip in each direction on Saturday, there is a natural swap at Craigentinny of the "London end" unit over the weekend.

Presumably 803001 will be the "London end" unit this week until then unless a STP path is put in for a swap at Edinburgh, with 803002 and 803003 sharing duties for the "Edinburgh end" unit.

However, I think that 803001 spent the night at Ferme Park Reception Sidings rather than going to Bounds Green for servicing. That might indicate that it does need to get to Craigentinny for a light exam before the weekend. How many round trips can it do before going to a depot?

That's a nice run. Edinburgh-Newcastle in 1hr23, only a minute slower than the 5.40 flying scotsman, and it includes a stop at Morpeth.

Quite a bit slower Newcastle onwards though, 2h55 instead of 2hr35

Looks like they are running more services Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. The 0615 from Edinburgh ran and the 1217 return.

803003 working back into Kings Cross tonight on 1E86 1612 Edinburgh to London Kings Cross having come fresh from Craigentinny as a swap for 803004 which appears to have worked 1S93 1045 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh today.

TrackIt! suggests that 1S93 arrived in Edinburgh at 1511. 5S93 left for Craigentinny at 1523, arriving at 1529, then 5E86 left Craigentinny at 1547, arriving in Edinburgh at 1553 for the 1612 departure of 1E86.

With a bit of help from data on Railcam, I think we can say that

803001 worked / is working
5E80 0545 Craigentinny T.&R.S.M.D to Edinburgh
5E81 0614 Edinburgh to London Kings Cross
5S96 1218 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh
5S95 1745 Edinburgh to Craigentinny T.&R.S.M.D

803002 worked / is working
5E82 0833 Craigentinny T.&R.S.M.D to Edinburgh
1E82 0911 Edinburgh to London Kings Cross
1S97 1436 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh
5S98 1958 Edinburgh to Craigentinny T.&R.S.M.D

803003 worked / is working
5E86 1547 Craigentinny T.&R.S.M.D to Edinburgh
1E86 1612 Edinburgh to London Kings Cross
5Y86 2142 London Kings Cross to Ferme Park Recp.

803004 worked / is working
5S93 0950 Ferme Park Recp. to London Kings Cross
1S93 1045 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh
5S93 1523 Edinburgh to Craigentinny T.&R.S.M.D

I think 803005 was meant to be moved from Merchant Park to Darlington last night on 5Q79 2150 Merchant Park Sidings to Darlington for test running but something didn't happen.

803002 was stopped at Doncaster since 1712 having arrived 52 minutes late due to congestion. 66543 on 4Z50 0903 Seaforth C.T.(Fliner) to South Bank Tees Dock (Fhh) has failed between Shaftholme and Heck and needs a rescue engine to come from Leeds. Looks like back underway now, around 1750.

Thanks I saw 1E82 and the return 1S97 today.

Lumo is a nice ride and comfortable but this Grand Central 180 I'm on is so much nicer ;)

803005 has done is first mainline testing last night, working between Darlington and Doncaster before returning to Merchant Park later today.

Does that mean there are now normally three 803s on service trains daily ?.

No, it means they can swap at Edinburgh when they need to (as otherwise the same unit would work the Kings Cross starter all week without any access to maintenance facilities). There was no Edinburgh swap yesterday.

The Kings Cross starter spends the night at Ferme Park rather than Bounds Green.

It is just that the 5E81 from Edinburgh and 5S96 return to Edinburgh seem to be a new pair of services to me.

I agree that an extra unit is likely as 1S93 to Edinburgh would swap before the return working of 1E86.

Yes, but those are empty workings. That said, it looks like those paths ran as passenger services 1E80 / 1S95 under VSTP arrangements yesterday.

The one northbound service today was cancelled due to a unit failure. Annoyingly for me as I was hoping to catch it!
