I'd be inclined to agree that they will be bog-standard 80x. The style of service would not seem to be one that would benefit from doors at thirds, and it would restrict the options for seating layout.

Agreed on both points, retaining the existing door-layout seems logical and it continues with what went before, and secondly that the nature if the service doesn't particularly lend itself to 1/3, 2/3 door placement. We will soon see whether that's correct once the intermediate cars take shape.

Another point is that if it's an abject failure, it might not be too difficult to arrange for the units to go to GWR or TPE instead, with some minor mods to the layout and adding First and a kitchen (all modular, unlike the door layout).

Very valid point.

Are these to be owned by the TOC, leased from Hitachi or leased from one of the ROSCOs, do we know?

They will be leased from a ROSCO and have the same door positions as the rest of the 80x fleet. The difference in the layout inside will be substantial - the details are embargoed and will be released in due course.

Five aside compartments. ;)
Given it's easier to socially distance in a compartment, this wouldn't be such a bad idea! Perhaps not five aside, though...

I would be interested to see this 'substantially different' layout.

Been thinking that too, doesn't seem to have been much going on recently.

Of course the whole COVID situation has probably delayed things a bit mind you

Isn't multiple working with a Hull Trains 802 a potential option for dates when the Lincoln route is being used?

Blocks north of Doncaster are more of an issue.
Yes, I was only thinking of them running on their own, and as you suggest its difficult to find a solution up north...
