I had no idea that mining had survived as long as that in the area, even though I have family in Skelmanthorpe and pass through Scissett regularly. Where was this pit? It can't have been big for me to miss it!
Its called Hay Royds Colliery and is located on Wheatley Hill Lane near to Wheatley Hill Farm, it was a private pit which could be one of the reasons why it suvived for so long.
What suprises me is that the 95 which Stagecoach ran went through Scissett, in which case was some sort of Coillery Link until it was axed and replaced with the joke that was the 85 until that went and was replaced again but shorter route with the 96A until Tates went bust leaving nothing.
