47500 has been loaded onto a low loader was due to leave MOSI by road this morning. However the police have said the combined weight of the loco and trailer is too heavy for some of the local roads, so it's going to have to be unloaded again and left on the tracks.

Sorry, but seems to be incorrect.

Looking at my photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/75928597@N07/8471520089/in/photostream there are 12 axles, and would be physically impossible to add any more.

Anyway it appears whatever required adjustments to the load or the route were made, as it had gone from that location by early evening. Not yet reported arriving anywhere else though.

47500 Apparently spent the night at a Service Station en route (Travelodge anyone?) before finally arriving into Carnforth this evening.

Well, 47500 Made it safely up to Carnforth last night, via a day spent in Charnock Richard Services on the M6.

Doesn't look too bad in the photos, though I guess they were taken in the dark! Here's hoping they make a swift assessment and perhaps put it back together again.

I'm sure I saw a loco at a Welcome Break once before when I worked for the company...can't remember what or where though

How appropriate! :D

True, does seem to happen fairly often as i've seen a scrap 37 parked up on the M1 before.

Wonder if they stopped off for some WD-40 & a bottle of T-Cut. Don't think a pasty will do though...

Quite a few years ago now I was in the café of one of the service stations on the M6 that are built right up against the carriageway. There was a young boy at the next table to was pointing things out to his parents that were passing, "white van", "big lorry" sort of stuff.
When he said "train" his mother or father (I forget which) tried to correct him "no, not train, lorry", but he wasn't having any of it and said "train" again. I looked up at this and sure enough half of a Central Trains 158 was passing on the back of a low loader! The other half passed a minute or so later and was duly pointed out by the young boy to his parents.

Love it when kids do this to parents :) It always brings me joy. Even when they do it to me.

I see shuttles (eurotunnel things i cant remember what they are) regularly on M1 going to Brush, and i see steam engines a lot too on m1.

Euro shuttles have to, they are too big to fit in the uk loading gague!!!

It is often found that to move a train by road is cheaper than by rail, unless the load can be incorporated into an existing service. obviously if the condition or the size of the train means it cannot go by rail then we have no choice. Bizarre as the T&W metros were delivered by rail, yet now they are being refurbed they have to go by road!

Vaguely connected I suppose. I was on a train recently when it had been snowing. Going along past a field where a tractor or somesuch vehicle had turned round in the snow so as to make a big circle. There was this young 'un who exclaimed in a really cute way, "Crop circles!". It takes a lot for me to laugh out loud when alone in public, but I couldn't help myself :D
