You could look at it as seeing the whole project through on the entire route.
As the line is from Manchester to York and it would look a bit strange if all reporting stopped at the border.

There's a big difference between Scouse Merseyside and Lancashire Merseyside. St Helens is still very much Lancashire in feel (and especially accent) whereas Liverpool never has been. As for the plastic scousers over the water....

But definitely Merseyside Merseyside when it comes to senior citizen travel passes!

Those in the northern coastal part that encompasses Southport will never fully come to terms with being associated with "Merseyside"...

The wires are also up in streetview, and the view from the SB carriageway shows them in a setting light, and they do look good.

Don't think it's been mentioned before but the wires now appear to be in place along the headshunt towards Hunts Cross at Allerton depot.

There's still some other work going on putting up new masts, and what may be a building or covered shed or similar, back towards the depot buildings.

Maybe not but the eenior citizens are quite happy to have the Merseytravel concessionary travel arrangements.

That's probably because all of the residents of this ceremonial county contribute via the respective area of their local Metropolitan Borough Council Tax contribution.:(

Don't forget - we weren't always 'senior citizens'...:|

But still have a Lancashire postcode.

Having just received the renewal letter for my Merseytravel pass, don't think that postcode addresses have any relevance at all !!

On the Wirral, approx half the penninsula (the upper north-western part) is 'Merseyside' (though it no longer exists as a legal, but only a ceremonial county) the rest is Cheshire and the whole of the Wirral has a CH - CHESTER - postcode.

On the eastern side of the Mersey estuary, the Northern section of 'Merseyside' encompasses the Sefton metropolitan district , which includes as well as North Liverpool, the area of the town of Southport, Ainsdale, Formby and surrounding villages. The latter are under a PRESTON - PR - postcode !

Below these on the map is the district of West Lancashire - a completely different county - yet the LIVERPOOL - L - postcode prevails !

Continue southward on the map and you get to the 'Merseyside' metropolitan districts of Knowsley and St. Helens.

Knowsley effectively covers the conurbations of Huyton and Kirby and interim housing and industry. These are all under the LIVERPOOL - L - postcode.

Get to St. Helens and you find this 'Merseyside' metropolitan district is under a WARRINGTON - WA - postcode! Notwithstanding the fact that Warrington is currently in Cheshire!

I could continue, but I'm sure equal local government disorganisation has occurred in the immediate east of The Pennines ! :)

Altrincham which is in Greater Manchester has a Warrington postcode which is in Cheshire.

Postcodes don't follow local government boundaries.
Chester (CH) and Shrewsbury (SY) cover significant areas of Wales as well as Cheshire/Shropshire (similar to the historic railway, of course).
My parents' house in Little Sutton (Wirral) started out with an L66 postcode (ie Liverpool), but at some point it became CH66 (Chester).

The only thing a postcode means these days is that it's easier for the Royal Mail to send a letter or parcel to the right sorting office for local (?) delivery. The postcode has nothing to do anymore with what county a town is in. Grimsby has a Doncaster (DN) postcode for example.

I think that was true in the 70s when the postcodes were first set up, but at some later time the link was broken and a sorting office in a postcode district may no longer handle mail for the whole of that district and indeed may no longer exist at all. With sorting now being automatic it's easy enough to program the computer to sent mail for AA33 and AA34 to the office at BB instead (hypothetical example before someone picks me up on where these places actually are!).
