Hi,

What routes are valid on the return portion of an Off Peak return marked 'Any Permitted'?

I ask because I may come back via Leeds or Sheffield. I presume Manchester>Euston>King's Cross>Stevenage is valid.

Also, can I go to York, then Stevenage?

Also, I know there is an easement allowing Selby > London via York. does this mean I can go Manchester>Selby>York>Stevenage?

Thanks in advance,

Lee

All the routes between Manchester and Stevenage.

Valid Routes from Manchester Piccadilly [MAN] to Stevenage [SVG]:
  1. Direct trains from Manchester Piccadilly to Stevenage
  2. Shortest Route: 168.75 miles
  3. Mapped Routes (subject to fares check):
    LONDON GROUP - Stevenage:
    MANCHESTER GROUP - LONDON GROUP:
    MANCHESTER GROUP - Stevenage:

To answer your specific questions :

Manchester - Euston - Kings Cross - Stevenage is valid.
Manchester - Huddersfield Or Halifax - Leeds - Stevenage is valid

As for going via York I am not sure whether you can or not. I've had a quick skim through the maps and couldn't see it, and I'm not 100% on the easements.

Manchester - Stevenage is valid via maps :
LONDON GM+MA+BP+ER GM+WY+ER LY+WK+EE LY+WK+ER MA+BP+ER
MS+MM+BP+ER MS+SH+ER NL+ER PS+ER TP+WK+EE TP+WK+ER

Manchester - Stevenage via York would be valid using the combination :

TP + WK + ER

TP : Manchester - Huddersfield
WK : Huddersfield - Wakefield - Pontrefact - Goole - Gilberdyke
ER : Gilberdyke - Selby - York - Peterborough - Stevenage

Manchester - Stevenage via Selby, York would be valid using this map combination :

GM + WY + ER

GM : Manchester - Stalybridge - Huddersfield
WY : Huddersfield - Leeds - Selby
ER : Selby - York - Doncaster - Peterborough - Stevenage

TP + WK + ER

TP : Manchester - Huddersfield - Leeds - York
ER : York - Doncaster - Peterborough - Stevenage
WK : Not needed.

Surely to use a combination of maps you have to use all three maps in order. So WK needs to be used in this case.

Normally the EMT to Manchester takes about an hour longer than using EC to Doncaster and TPE to Manchester.

Example journey times if using leaving after 1600 today :

1620 dep Manchester Piccadilly - Doncaster arr 1735 dep 1745 arr Stevenage 1907

1643 dep Manchester Piccadilly - Peterborough arr 1938 dep 1950 arr Stevenage 2020

So i'd agree it was quicker via Doncaster
