You seem to be authorities on the 6O62 Crewe-Dungeness and the 6M95 Dungeness-Willesden Brent

I'd appreciate your help - I want to take advantage of this week's weather and capture these services on the Kent main line and the Dungeness branch.

I haven't been able to find booked timings and I'd welcome some expertise!

Many thanks in advance...

6O62 should pass Ashford International at 07:55, arriving at Dungness around 09:00ish. 6M95 is booked to depart Dungeness at 16:35 and when it gets to Appledore, it waits for an Ashford bound 171 to pass. After the 171 has cleared, 6M95 comes out from the branch and usually passes through Appledore at 17:15 and Ashford at 17:35. Both 6O62 and 6M95 run via Tonbridge and Sevenoaks.

It's best to check South East Rail Gen for information on 6O62/6M95 running. There is usually a post or two about it running and with what locos allocated to it. Look out for messages titled "Dungeness Flasks", "6O62", "6M95" or something similar.

HTH :)

Great video of 6M95. Brought back some good memories of the day...

Thanks to your info, Google Maps and some savage driving (!), I managed to capture the service at four seminal locations along the branch: sun-kissed, scenic - and nicely complemented by two of English Electric's finest!

Alas, I'm a luddite and I shoot transparency film (Fuji Velvia has no equal!); so I can't upload my shots until I've developed and scanned 'em.

BTW, is the inside-coupled Tractor only for breakdown insurance purposes? Only '7 seemed to be doing the work yesterday.

Cheers.

Where abouts did you capture the 37s yesterday? Will be interesting to know because I'm looking for different (and decent) places to catch 6O62/6M95 on the Dungeness Branch.

Both locos on the flasks are usually in use, they certainly were last week and the week before. However, I've noticed on a few ocassions over the past few weeks that the loco between the leading one and the wagons has been DIT.

Popped over to Ashford this afternoon where I captured 47501 working a Stoneblower drag and 395005 on a test run to St Pancras. Also uploaded a shot of a Eurostar.

OK, the locations - and the sun was in a perfect position for all of 'em! -

1) Beside the A259, halfway between Dungeness railhead and the "Dungeness Nature Reserve" turning. Birds on the sandbank, in middle of lake, made for some foreground interest. 6M95 shot side-on.

2) Around the closed Lydd Town station. I took head-on shots, of the approaching train, from the crossing; and from the western side of the overbridge, as the leading Tractor moved onto the crossing.

3) King Street crossing, Brenzett. Looking southward down the line, as the train rounds the sharp curve. There's a great mix of trackside signage clustered around the curve.

4) Due west of Appledore station crossing. Whereas you (I guess) were setting up the video camera on that driveway to the east of the crossing, I was over the other side and took a rear 3/4 shot. But that gives a cracking view of the surrounding scenery.

Now, shots 1 and 3 need quite a long lens focal length - 250mm for location 1; and, for location 3, 800mm (yep!), mainly to emphasis the sharp curve and to hide a fencepost.

Cheers for that, although I know of all them locations, haven't done shots 1 and 4 though, but have done 2 and 3. I'll have to try the Appledore shot that you did sometime. :)

I take it you was the guy in the white shirt with a camera which looked as though it had a rather large lense attached to it?

Updated my site with a couple of shots of Hastings Unit No. 1001 passing Robertsbridge on 'The Wiltshire Warrior' Railtour to Salisbury and a few shots of A1X 'Terrier' No. 3, P class No. 753 and class 33 No. 33052 on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. All taken today;

Haha! Guilty as charged, your honour. Yep, that was me.

That's "home defence" grade - the camera body, lens plus monopod weigh in at nearly ten kilos!

More nornally used for fashion shoots - so I'm fairly used to looking down the lens at "a fine pair of 37's"....

Cheers mate. :)

I had some stuff to do today so was unable to go out for anything. Weather wasn't brilliant either. I heard that 67001 and 67030 were on the VSOE, not 66091 that you were hoping for.

I'm afraid I don't know whether the VSOE went down to Folkestone Harbour in the end, probably not.

Yes I heard about 67010. Saw a couple of shots of it in it's new livery yesterday.

Thanks guys, your comments are much appreciated. :D

did DBS drive there own locos or did they let MNR drivers drive them ??? and did the Skip & shed clag

You know the tour we doing to swanage with Tangmere and we was wondering what the diesel will be well on here it says ;) http://www.railtourinfo.co.uk/diesel.html#may

James

I'm not too sure if DBS drove their locos or whether MNR drivers drove them, probably both.

Tbh I didn't pay much attention to the Shed and Skip so don't know whether they clagged. There was much better traction to be seen. ;)

Hope DBS aren't the TOC for the tour to Swanage. Times I have seen for the tour show the ECS coming from Southall so I assume it will be WCR operated.

Ok lol I check this thursday for the shed I seen Skips clag but a GM verison :D Why dont you want DBS to be the TOC for the tour ?Alway tours I have seen that gone onto Preserved Railways has always been EWS/DBS:???: Could the bit from Southall be ECS for tangmere if in DBS control .But if it is in WCRC hands then I hope for a 37 or a 33 and not a 47 is that 37 still at southall that brought ECS down the other day?

I don't want DBS to do it because it means having a 66 or 67 taking the tour back to London, whereas if it was WCR operated, something like a 37 or 47 would take the train back. I prefer 37s and 47s to 66s and 67s.

I haven't done many tours that have actually gone onto a preserved railway, the only one I can think of was UK Railtours' Oozlum Bird Number 2 from Victoria-Alton via lines around London back in February 2008. TOC was EWS and traction was 2 GBRf 73s. A lot of tours onto preserved railways do seem to be operated by DBS/EWS but that doesn't mean WCR don't!

I guess the ECS from Southall to Victoria could be operated by DBS along with the whole tour, however, it seems (to me at least) that it is likely going to be WCR operated.

I'm afraid I don't know whether that 37 (706 I think) is still at Southall.

DBS putting one of their 37s on a tour down in the South East? Yeah right! Believe 37425 (the one that visited the MNR) hasn't got OTMR, if so that won't be used on the mainline at all!

Yes, we will find out about what diesel hauls us back to London, either from the gen sites or at Victoria on the morning of the tour.

Have fun on the tour to Swanage on Thursday. Lovely GM thrash for you.
