That's true but 508102 is not a Merseyrail unit, it is one of the stored ex-Silverlink units
Good point; should have checked that. Yes, it's 508 301.

So it looks like it was a 507, then, but presumably not actually 002... I would guess the earlier suspicion of 507 007 is probably correct, then?

I emailed Merseyrail again Heres the Reply,

Dear Mr Holt,

Thank you for your recent email.

I have spoken to our Planning and Performance Department, who advise me that the unit should be back in passenger service within the next month or so.

you sure its going back to Brikinhead? its normaly kept at Kirkdale.

Birkenhead*
Units moving on and off the system though are normally towed to/from B/head North as I think it's easier to access for locomtive hauled trains.

its also the main TMD so any commisioning work would be done there.

Units on the merseyrail system are used interchangeably, they are never "kept" in a set location. They are all allocated to Birkenhead North TMD and can be stabled at West Kirby, New Brighton, Birkenhead North, Birkenhead Central, Rock Ferry, Hooton, Southport or Kirkdale

Does anybody know if this unit has returned to passenger service yet ?

Having spent the morning on the Merseyrail network (hoping to clear my last few 507s and 508s for haulage) this was one of only 7 Merseyrail units I didnt see this morning.

507002 is currently being re-vynald into a local university livery. Out if interest, which other units didn't you see?

The other units were 507012/030 and 508104/111/114/117.
One of the above was at Kirkdale depot in a blue advertising livery, only saw it from a distance but it may have been either 508111, 114, or 117.

That'll be 508111 in its Beatles Story advertising livery.

507012 and 508117 are both receiving periodic overhauls, so they'll be absent for a little while yet.

507012 actually went to kilmarnock on the diesel loco when 002 was returned. It returned to Merseyside by road, but is still awaiting parts

507030, 508114 and 508104 are both in service as far as I know.

507002 has been in service for just over a week now and I have to say, it has some quirks. For example, there is a loud whining sound from the DMS B coach, almost exactly the same sound as the mark 3 coaches make. Suspension on DMS A coach is very rough too. Im not too sure about what that sound is, anyone got any ideas. It can also be found on 507 010.

Thanks in advance

Indeed it is an air con system. 507002 has had it fitted to one cab only (64368) as a tester, while units 507010, 507015, 507026 and 508126 have received the system at both ends.

Why is this being done; the 507/508 fleet will be replaced soon. (Or more specifically 2018 :P )
