I don't have access to the current version of this though. It is not in the public domain at all.

Some observations:-

1) Woodlands Road should be replaced by Queens Road

2) What about all the Airport line stops that follow on after St Werburgh's Road where the Airport line bifurcates from the East Didsbury line?

As you will see if you observed my posting:

I don't have access to the current version of this

Only someone who can access iKB will be able to provide these answers. The version I posted is from 2013.

Metrolink is planning to introduce zonal fares in early 2019, if approved by the Gtr Manchester Combined Authority. The change would cut the 8,500 stop-to-stop fares now in use to just 10 zone-based fares. There is a map of the proposed zones on their website. Some short-distance trips, especially those crossing a zone boundary, are likely to cost more but the new system would offer more flexibility.

Could you please post a link to the map as I can't seem to find it.
Thanks

Looks like a good idea. The zones chosen seem to be sensible.

Metrolink said:
Metrolink passengers could soon benefit from a simple and flexible zone system for fares and ticketing.

The change would cut the 8,500 stop-to-stop fares currently in use to just 10 zone-based fares. Customers will be able to enjoy unlimited travel within their chosen zones, instead of one-off journeys between specific stops.

If approved by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority the change would take place in early 2019, bringing Metrolink in line with other transport networks, such as London and other European cities.

It would also help pave the way for a fully-integrated ticketing system for Greater Manchester.

i think they should wait to release this with similar changes and integration with rail fares otherwise it will be viewed as a moneygrabber. hopefully this would reduce short fares outside the city - never understood how they could justify the fares between places like chorlton and didsbury or oldham and rochdale.

Now, it would be lovely to, in time, have similar Zones applied to Heavy Rail services too, with a proper Train/Tram/Bus Zonal Travelcard season ticket for the first time.

Having constructed a fares spreadsheet for Metrolink in the past and looked up a ridiculous number of fares on the cumbersome Fare Finder on the TfGM website I can only applaud this proposed change. I don't visit Manchester very often so am not directly affected but I've never understood why such opaque and complex fares were deemed necessary for Metrolink. Simpler fare structures tend to support passenger growth and encourage new users. The bit that's missing is the actual prices for the new structure but it looks much better at first glance.

As the press release hints the real plus is where this goes in future in respect of bus and rail fares and allowing a better integrated system with better multi modal and transfer ticketing. Wonder if the bus companies will "play ball"??

Ooo looks like Cornbrook will be included in what is currently the CTLZ?
yup - i think tfgm are being good here by including it in zone 1/2 because you dont penalise those travelling to salford quays offices from south of the city..

It started off quite simple - Bury to Altrincham was Zones A to G (Zone "D") being the City Zone, and shown on maps as such, explaining to passengers that your fare depended on how many zones you entered, albeit with tickets still sold point-to-point.

A zone was added for the Eccles line (H), later split in two, but then all the Zones got dropped (at least for the public-facing information) before Phase 3 came along.

The daft thing is for most "long" return journeys a day ticket is the same price anyway. At least we're not going back to the period when day tickets cost different amounts depending what stop you bought them from...

Relating to the fare zones currently in use by ticket offices when issuing a ticket to a station on the Metrolink network from within Greater Manchester. Does anyone know the zone for Roundthorn Station, as I can't seem to find any information about it online, and my copy of the fares manual predates the Airport line opening. Thanks.
