For those that do track to Quail level, the new timetable brings new opportunities as well as taking some away. I'll try and maintain a list if others post, or just let this die if no-one is interested! Obviously, with just weeks to go until timetable change, any bits being lost that are posted here would be appreciated. I'll get the ball rolling with these:

    Lost:
    1) Uttley Junction crossover (South Bermondsey turnback). Very unlikely to be used in anger with TL online.
    2) Huntingdon P1
    3) Richmond P6 (London Overground Service)
    4) Various crossovers between New Barnet and Hitchin
    5) Marsden crossover
    6) Oxted London-end crossover
    7) Morpeth Down Slow loop.

    Gained:
    1) Baldock crossover
    2) Selhurst DVS - UVS (P1 start)
    3) Richmond P7 (London Overground service) one service M-F
    4) South Acton crossover
    5) Buckshaw Parkway crossover
    6) Various crossovers around Alexander Palace with more services using SL2 in both directions
    7) Various crossovers in the remodelled London Bridge area
    8) Prudhoe crossover

Can add up slow to platform 1 at Alexandra Palace, and down slow 2 to platform 3, both used regularly from new timetable. On the debit side just about every slow/fast crossover between Welwyn and Finsbury Park, virtually nothing booked at all, although they will still no doubt get used by the signallers when things are off course.

Very little booked to cross down fast to Hitchin platform 2 as well, although again no doubt this will happen on an unplanned basis. Hertford north down siding not used either.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll update the main post when I'm little more awake! As for Buckshaw Parkway, looking at some maps reals quick, this looks to be an empty shunt move and not available for public use?

Three trains running South Acton - Stratford at 1414, 1442, 1541, using crossover north of station.

It is a trailing crossover country side of the station. In the standard hour (http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/BSV/2018/06/12/1100?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt), it is 13 minutes between arrival and departure. Furthermore, there is an xx02 departure from Blackpool to Victoria. If it was a shunt move from the other platform, this could only commence after the xx02 has departed.

This would be a move xx05-xx07 onto the Up Main from the Down platform
3 minutes for driver to change ends (at least) gives xx10
Thus xx12 arriving in the Up platform
At least a further 3 minutes to change ends again, so soonest possible departure using this operation is xx15, when the scheduled departure is xx09

Therefore, I can only conclude the starting service departs from the Down platform in the Up direction at xx09, after the Blackpool-Manchester has departed at xx02, and clears the Down Platform for the Manchester-Blackpool that arives at xx12.

Unless Googlemaps satellite view is wrong, the crossover is on the Manchester side of the station. Assuming it has a running signal departure from the Down is straightforward.

By "country" side, I did in fact mean Manchester side. An odd choice of wording, I know...

I've spotted a couple potentially interesting moves

2C57 1827 Cambridge to London Kings Cross, goes via platform 1 at Welwyn Garden City rather than the usual P2:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/W64653/2018/06/13/advanced

No idea if it is just a mistake on RTT but I guess the only way to find out is come the 21st May

Well, I suppose Preston is the county administrative centre and Manchester is.... somewhere else. :)

I'm curious, what is micro gricing to quail level and where did the name come from? Never heard of it before!

Possibly lost: Currently the 1914 Kings Cross-Ely (http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/G72671/2018-05-15) is unusual in running Down through the Up platform (1) at Royston, thus bagging the London-end facing crossover and country-end trailing crossover. Not sure if there is a future timetable equivalent (especially for the country-end).

Very small individual pieces of track (e.g. a particular crossover) that count as being rudden over, as opposed to the normal definition of gricing which is just to have visited a station or ridden a line of route.

(I can't think of any examples gained/ lost at this timetable change, but I *love* threads like this where you appreciate the attention to detail and fascination that fellow enthusiasts have!)

This could be an error, although even if it isn't I'd be surprised if the move happens in practice.

There are some evening services booked to run via platform 4, however these are to get out the way of other services.

I believe the Mondays-Fridays 2J96 07:59 Woodgrange Park to Willesden Junction which uses the avoiding lines at Gospel Oak will be withdrawn after Friday 18 May.

This is according to the PSUL website.

    More GTR stuff:

    - No more weekday passenger departures from Oxted Platform 3
    (currently 2 per day)
    - No more Down Redhill to Up Redhill moves
(relating to departures from Platform 3 - as all departures from Platform 3 are now going to be Down direction only)
    - No more trains routed from the Up Tonbridge to Platform 2 at Redhill
(no track lost, but not a booked manoeuvre from mid-May)

Looks like there won't be anything starting from Marsden P3 towards Huddersfield, so that crossover won't be possible.

Always a bit random which platform you arrive at or depart from. Depends on what freights are running.

OK, so here's one which is definitely lost from passenger service in the Oxted area, so far as I can see: the Down East Grinstead to Up East Grinstead crossover to the north of Oxted station. Currently used by at least one train each weekday. For passenger services, it will now only be used for services which terminate and then start back towards London during engineering work.

There will also now be the sum total of one passenger train per weekday routed from the Up East Grinstead to the Slow Reversible at South Croydon Junction, which will be 1E22 1003 UCK-ECR. This is an additional East Croydon termination, and one which boosts the mid-morning service randomly to 2tph on the Uckfield branch. Quite why it exists is anyone's guess - the demand chiefly exists in the previous hour.

Is it an easy way of getting a unit back to Selhurst Depot using the straight in run available from Windmill Bridge?

In theory... but sending it all the way to the terminus at the other end of the route, running it all the way back in passenger service, locking it out at ECR, and only then running straight in...?

I thought that one was in to allow retention of route knowledge on that spur; is there another service which will be doing this chord now in place of the 07.20 or are they going to use ecs workings for the purpose?

The spur sees no booked use from N to S (Victoria start), but sees 3 booked trains S to N in the new timetable (M-F); all Thameslink operated. The 1I07, 1I09 and 1I11. This spur gets regular use during engineering.
