In the pre Covid days, l think that they published their Timetable about a week before the gala, which also shows what loco(s) are on what train. Their web site suggests that trains will run from 0900 until 1730.

What has happened with recent events is that when you buy a travel ticket for the gala you are allocated a seating bay or compartment on a certain set of carriages and you must stick to that bay/compartment for the day. You can get of but the only train you can get back on, is the one that has been allocated to you. The haulage is changed after every run.

So if you planned to try and dash from one train to another at Ropley or Medsted, you won't be allowed to!

There was a timetable posted in a wnxx forum posting but it has been withdrawn. First trains shown on that were around 0830 from Ropley and 0915 from Alton / Alresford which is consistent with previous events.

That isn't how the steam event on 30 April - 3 May operated - the numbers of tickets available were limited and there was some one way direction but passengers were free to follow their own plans.

That isn't how the steam event was organised and nothing would appear to suggests it is how this one will be. I concede that I think it is how an event was organised last year.

I went to the steam event on 1st May. A few days beforehand there was still no timetable on the website, so I e-mailed them and got a prompt reply with a pdf attached.

Their steam gala was excellent. Ticket numbers for each day were limited but this meant you could chop and change and get to ride behind all the various steam locos. Changes at Ropley and Medstead were no problem and ensured all locos were ticked off.

Thanks for the comments- so basically someone put the timetable on a forum you had to know about and be on in time to see it, but the railway still have it as a secret?

No - the steam gala timetable was also put on Twitter a few days before. It was publicly available.

The timetable in question is still online and I can’t see anything in the WNXX to say it has been withdrawn Obviously it is not officially published by the railway so can’t be relied on but I’m sure it could be used as a rough guide for first/last trains etc. I understand the delay is down to ongoing negotiations re a last minute extra visitor.

47579 has been stopped with coolant issues, so 47580 will be covering.
They've actually managed to get the next in number sequence to replace it?! That's quite impressive, has that every happened before at a gala?

Excellent day today at the gala, very well run. 20059 lost a traction motor on the afternoon run from Alton to Medstead, took us 45 mins to go at walking pace up the hill into the station - not sure what state it's in but it worked hard!!
