Are 17 and 21 out and about? It would seem that these two are very difficult to catch sight of.

16 also seems very active atm, despite suffering lots of problems going back a few years.

17 has never run in passenger service yet & only ran a few trips when driver training was taking place back in the summer 2013.
17 has been robbed of a few minor parts to keep the other Urbos in service
It is over the back of the depot by now rusted to the track:)

21 has been out since around the end of September awaiting parts

Available for duties 18-19-20-22-23-24-25-26-27-31

Last Thursday (12th) a full Urbos 3 service was accomplished. Slightly short-lived however as the next day saw T69's supplement an ever growing availability of Urbos 3's - and that continues each day. Evening services are pure Urbos trams though....

Isn't it a bit early to start having Christmas Trees considering they're still building the things?

Tram 17 was only robbed of some parts whilst it was out of action itself due to another issue (since resolved) due to the spares lead time from Spain. It is common enough with large fleets to do so anyway, but the spares situation has since kept others from joining the operational fleet whilst CAF sort out various technical issues to keep the service fleet running. Tram 21 was such a case, but once repaired it indeed entered service as Andy mentioned above.

Driving a T69 is indeed becoming rarer these days, as the Urbos 3's take their rightful place more and more...

Saw 34 a few weeks ago undergoing testing, so are all trams now in service, obviously with the exception of 17?

34 was deliverd new to metro depot on friday23 January ,started mainline testing around Thursday 07 May.

It was out testing several times a week until the last week in September then tram 36 became the next tram out on test .

Each new tram has to cover 1800km fault free before going on to the next stage
Ready to enter passenger service ,a lot of red tape is also involved!!
34 has done well over 3000km and has been one of the longest on test.

34 made a few test trips last Monday 12th so it's entry in to service must be soon ? ,hopefully it may be the last new tram to enter passinger service to use the present snow hill stop before closing next Saturday.

35 was the last new tram to enter service,Wednesday 9th september. 34 was also out on test that day too.

36? Does that mean they took on the option for the extra 6 in the original contract? I was under the impression that they ordered 19 originally?

Sorry I am a bit behind times in light rail matters.

Right the Urbo 3 fleetlist numbers from 17 to 37, thats what they have according to a tram website, now going from memory there was a option to order more in the near future, because the other exstention s are underway the first to centenary sq and the other will go out to dibeth area to serve the coach stn, and also the other in due course will go into wovlhampton city centre proper, the details are on the centro website .and also other exstention are planned too but thats a long way off right now,
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Bb21 yes your right in what your thinking about the extra options but that to take up at a later date this year , according to to the transport people, ie centro,

I had heard a rumour twice last week, that another nine Urbo 3 trams were on order. Is it true or not?

I wuld like to clarify that we do indeed have 21 Urbos 3 trams. As Andy rightly posted, 37 was delivered back in July and is awaiting the endurance testing phase. Tram 17 has been undergoing an extensive rebuild for a while now. It arrived first, but underwent many modifications as a testbed vehicle at the same time as endurance testing commenced on later deliveries. A substantial repair had to be undertaken and during this time, a lot of spares were borrowed from this one until the spares situation improved with CAF. Now under rebuild, it will enter service eventually....

As for the further orders, I'm not in a position to comment on that I'm afraid

can anyone say how the pids internal and external are holding up? and what about those 17" TFT internal screens?

Also, I'd like to know if the saloon cooling system is the same Soprano design as used on the Edinburgh Urbos 3 trams?

Perhaps someone could also explain how they managed to fit such uncomfortable seats to the new stock. I can't believe that better quality seats would have cost very much more given the total cost of each tram.

I can't really answer for you as I've only had one return trip on them, but the system did seem to get rather confused with itself - after boarding at The Hawthorns, it seemed to think the Next Stop will be Grand Central all the way to Corporation Street where it terminated due to an incident.

Rather agree with you on that. It really is a metal seat base with a thin piece of moquette over the top. A Complete contrast to the CAF supplied Edinburgh trams - If NX Trusts it's NXWM Passengers with Leather Seats, then why not the tram? Unless that was one of Centro's specs?
