Firstly don't blame me for the pun in the thread title - MT2G - Midnight Train to Georgemas is how a potential domestic Scottish Sleeper is titled in this rolling stock feasibility study for HiTrans. Not seen this document discussed before, though it appears to have been published last month after being completed in May.
The document deals with 2 scenarios of a direct single train from Glasgow via Edinburgh to Thurso and vice versa, plus the what seems to be preferred option of a longer train that splits in Inverness, leaving and picking up coaches in/from Inverness which would allow a connection to the year round morning Scrabster to Stromness Northlink Ferry.
Most interesting aspect is that it looks like a 12-18month trial could be on the cards using redundant Mk3 and Mk 2 vehicles from the Caledonian Sleeper.
