Might TPE make use of Pendolinos as they come free? Or am I messing up my timescales?

I don't know about TPE using them, but I have seen one of the post-HS2 WCML timetable proposals as having the remaining hourly Euston-Manchester service (which would exist primarily to serve the likes of MKC) continuing on from Manchester to Scotland, which would likely replace TPE on that route. I'd expect that to be Pendolino operated.

Why would TPE take on Pendolinos?

They've got 397s, 800 series units, Mk 5 push pull sets and at present 185s

If they require any more trains, they'd be better getting more 800 series bi mode units

Manchester to Scotland could at least use the tilt and of course, they are 9/11 cars - longer than anything else on the WCML.

Makes sense to me - other than Oxford Road being a problem.

Maybe it could be a second tph - hourly to Edinburgh, through from London. With the existing Airport service being hourly to Glasgow (calling Oxford Road).

No TPE won't be making use of them.

Someone thinks they will. In the consultation stuff for Huddersfield-Ravensthorpe there are several vague drawings, one of which has a Pendolino in TPE livery at Huddersfield o_O
(And no, TPE won't use Pendolinos.)

Until HS2 comes along, they should be kept on the WCML for obvious reasons, but the question is what to do with them after. After that point though, I don’t see what use they would have.

Of the London bound WCML services, it would make sense for Birmingham and Liverpool to continue with a 350 operation. Therefore given that model works, it also makes sense for any Manchester-Euston WCML services to go to something similar to a 350. At least a train with doors at 1/3s. They won’t be needed in Glasgow-Edinburgh either.

They will be about 35 years old at this point in time, therefore scrapping them may be the best option, along with the Voyagers. (Although I fear that Voyagers May become the Pacer of long-distance travel).

Doesn't it all depend on how the railway is carved up at the end of ERMAs/franchises/direct awards?
The Pendolinos are pretty much a WCML asset, so you would expect them to be used on WCML services until retired.
That opens up what are now LNW and TPE services.
It also depends on the spread of electrification and general availability of electric stock.
Currently it looks like there will be a big surplus of 100/110mph EMUs, so the 390s may not be needed.
We also have to finish HS2 first.

Well the drawing for the white rose centre station has 4 mk 4 carriages in east coast livery with 2 power cars (one at each end) made of the demon love child of a class 91 and a 331 in northern livery.
