Can anyone suggest a way of getting from MK to Brackley & back by public transport on a Saturday 8th October. I want to go to Brackley v Darlington and the town seems completely isolated. The game starts at 1500 and will end about 1700.

I have looked at the bus from MK, Northampton, Banbury & Bicester with a combination of trains to any sensible point. I don't think it can be done as a cab will be ruinously expensive from Banbury. I might thumb a lift

Any help greatly appreciated!

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
Not being a footy fan I dont know, but do the club or 1 of the supporters online forums//facebook groups have a message board where you could post about possible liftshare?

Also BlaBlaCar is IMO worth a look.

I see what you mean though, its a bit complicated.

Lot of changes, but best way I can think of is X5 from MK to Bicester (bus stop adjacent to Bicester North station), train from Bicester to Banbury, 500 bus from Banbury to Brackley.

Or, could get X5 to Buckingham. Possibly taxi to Brackley (should be cheaper as nearer than Banbury)?

Or looks like there may be a Buckingham to Brackley bus on Saturdays. Outward looks okay (gets into Brackley at 14.30, return looks dodgy, but perhaps bus one way, taxi return)?

Are there any Northampton - Brackley buses on Saturdays?

Redline buses routes 132/131:

There's a 132 from Buckingham at 1350 arriving Brackley at 1429. The ground at Churchill Way looks reasonably close to the Market Place bus terminus.

There's a 131 from Brackley at 1710 arriving Buckingham at 1730.

Look on Traveline for buses between MK and Buckingham

As a fallback for the return journey, there's a Stagecoach 88 to Silverstone, Towcester and Northampton at 1842.

This is one of the few journeys that the GCR would actually be useful for!

Although MK wouldn't have existed ;) Also would it not be the LNWR route I would use from Bletchley rather than the GC? Brackley (Town?) station was very close the where the football ground now sits.

If you boarded a train from Darlington to Sheffield, then you could get another from Sheffield Victoria direct to Brackley. Using the LWNR would have required additional changes - such as at Bletchley and at, say, Northampton and Peterborough. A straight line drawn on a map between Darlington and Brackley pretty much follows the route of the GCML.
