Hi all

Just after a little advice about the MMI please. I'm preparing my answers for the MMI and I have responses to the main questions that will be posed as per threads on this forum. Some superb advice available I have to say

However, I just wanted to clarify how the interviewer doing the MMI will be scoring my answers against the behavioural criteria.

There are several posts floating about that mention focusing on including the following behavioural criteria in the MMI:

MAINTAIN VIGILANCE & CONCENTRATION AT ALL TIMES
REACT SAFELY AND QUICKLY
RETAIN & RECALL JOB RELATED INFORMATION
LEARN NEW INFORMATION
FOLLOW SET RULES & PROCEDURES
REMAIN CALM IN EMERGENCY SITUATION
CONSCIENTIOUSLY WORKS TO EXCEED TRAINING COURSE DEMANDS
COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
CHECKS NEVER ASSUMES
PROACTIVE & TENACIOUS

However, there are also the 26 NTS behavioural characteristics as per RSSB (maintaining concentration, anticipating your risks, tending to detail, being prepared and organised etc...)

Essentially, my question is this - what criteria will the interviewer be marking me against? The 10 that I've listed or the 26 RSSB NTS?

Hope this makes sense, Dan

Hi Dan

The MMI will cover some of the 10 you’ve listed

Knowledge of the RSSB NTS criteria will certainly be useful when it comes to your DM interview

All the best

Is the mmi part of the assessments? I mean, say if you pass the tests but fail the mmi, does that mean you can't do another mmi for 6 months? Also does it count towards your 2 strikes?

Yes it counts as part of 2 strike rule. DMI doesn't. And yes will have to wait 6 months to reapply to that TOC.

So does that mean if I fail any part of the assessments I can still retake them within 6 months for a different toc?

No. If you fail any of the assessments you can’t take them again for 6 months regardless of which TOC it is for. If you have passed at standard level, you might be able to apply for a different TOC that accepts standard but if you have failed completely then you have to wait for the 6 months to be over. If it’s just DMI failed then you can apply for a different TOC whenever you like.

You won’t be expected to know what NTS are at this stage so as has been suggested they may be useful to touch on for the DMI, but even then I wouldn’t worry about the 24 specific areas, just a broad brush of the 7. The MMI wants to assess you on your personal experience and you can draw on that from in the workplace or personal life.

Agreed. Or even just dropping NTS in to conversation at the DMI will make their ears prick up. Obviously being prepared to explain what your understanding of them if when they ask, which they will.

What are the NTS? Non technical skills, which ones are they likely to ask about?

I’d be surprised if they ask about any specific ones unless they tell you in advance what they will be asking you during the interview and what to revise (some companies do this but I’ve never experienced it for a trainee driver position). They may ask you what you understand NTS to be very briefly I guess?
