Here a few views from the A52 road bridge at Toton TMD, a sad state for the class 60s! I counted over 50 of the class stabled around the shed and the main line!

Good shots, shame to see so many 60's laid up. Some of them look like they wont see the main line ever again. How was this allowed to happen? They still look modern even now. Growing up in Leeds I got to see practically zero freight but there was a 60 hauled train that passed where I played football every night, so have a bit of a liking for them.

Just noticed, one of the penned in ones looks to be 60033 'tees steel express', remember fondly when it used to be steel blue and was a regular on the train mentioned above. Gutted!

Do you have any pictures new vs now? Would be an interesting comparison!

60033 is due to return soon and is currently under scheduled repair at Toton. Note that this is not overhaul, but repair, so it'll receive a few new parts but it won't get the level of treatment the others have had. Other long-term stored 60's being repaired are 60012/087, and apparently also 003/021/080/085/088/092 are all waiting in the wings to be repaired/overhauled (I think it was mentioned that 092 was to be added to the overhaul list on WNXX forum and the others were to be repaired), so this time next year after the emergence of 60015/017/040 from overhaul, plus the return of these repaired ones we will have quite a few 60's in traffic, and we might see them return to some of their old haunts!

That's good news, 033 looks pretty rough in the picture above though. I wouldn't have thought they'd bother repairing it in that state without painting it.

I've moved now so I wouldn't see that train anyway, although I know it still runs with a 66 as I've seen it when I've been in leeds. Can't see 60s on the ecml as far as york, too slow?

Dammit i only need about 25 60's then i'll have 'classed' them, looks like they won't be an intact class soon.

great perspective, trainspotter :)

I have, but will have to scan them, got most of them outside brush and other depots as well!

Outside the works taken Sept 91 and Feb 92 and Leicester depot was also Sep 92 with a couple of grids thrown in as well!!!

Aside from the Supertug , is an economic life for the majority of 60s of 15 years or so just plain madness and should 80 class 66s not have been built ? and could this argument extend to the 58s and possibly even the 56s.

Has this ever been justified or just plain overlooked ?
