Anybody know why this extra stop appeared on the Leeds-Southport service this morning? Shouldn’t the National Rail app only list passenger station stops?

That's train 1J07. The extra entry is the timing point at Heaton Lodge Junction. Somebody made a boob in setting up the algorithm that extracts and displays stops for this train. I checked on Realtime Trains and it isn't an STP entry, which might explain an error on one day.
Does it appear on the same train on other days?

Today's schedule in Darwin for that service does actually have public timing and activity code "T " (stops to pick up and set down passengers) for HETNLJN...

<IP tpl="HETNLJN" act="T A " pta="08:47" ptd="08:48" wta="08:46:30" wtd="08:48:30" />

Our programming is the same and screens will show an untranslated TIPLOC if there is a public activity for a location with no associated crs in the reference data - there have been quite a few posts on here in the past of station and platform displays doing the same!

The "A " activity is "Stops or shunts for other trains to pass" which explains the working arrive / depart timing.

As usual a very comprehensive answer from this forum. I suspected somebody had just boobed but appreciate all the extra info, thank you.

There are a few around, some even appear on station departure boards. Nothing more exciting or sinister!
WATSTJTN (for Water Street Junction in Manchester) was one that did occasionally pop up on the app when the new timetable started last year.
