NRE offer to show on a map all the routes that are valid for the journey you are planning. When I first noticed it a couple of years ago, it showed my a Bing map of an unlabelled town in Lancashire. Discovering it again today, I find it does the same, with no routes shown (Redhill-Deal was my query). The map has this caption:

This Map shows the route of your selected journey and other allowable routes found by the journey planner for the date(s) specified. It does not indicate interchange stations, times that you are allowed to travel or train operating companies with which you are allowed to travel. Unless otherwise noted, you are only able to travel through a station once.

For a complete list of all allowable routes for travel please refer to the
ATOC National Routeing Guide

Am I doing something wrong or is it my browser (Edge) or is it NRE not delivering what they offer?

It seems to be centred on Birch services on the M62 (!)

I'm wondering - given that the routeing algorithm has failed so there are no points to plot - whether it could be showing you the centre of a rectangle that very roughly encompasses the rail network in GB.

In my experience this feature of NRE only rarely produces useful information.

I've just tried it on Chrome/Android and experienced something similar. I can't confirm whether it was Lancashire as there were no labels and zooming didn't work.

No route was shown and after a bit of clicking around "Route 2" and "Route 3" menu items appeared on the left. They didn't seem to do anything.

Given how NRE is generally broken in so many ways, it shouldn't come as a surprise that this doesn't work!

NRE is dire for all kinds of reasons. I'll just remember to add this to my list of complaints next time they ask me to do a customer satisfaction survey. Not that I think they read my responses.

Thanks, anyway.
