Just a quick question - can you purchase a network railcard with an advanced date? i.e a week before you want to use it.

Cheers in advance

No Railcard can be bought pre-dated, except renewals iirc.

If you buy one of the various national railcards on-line, the expiry date is a week and a year (or 3 years or whatever) after the day you bought it, although that's done to allow for delivery times.

I don't know if you can buy any local railcards on-line, though.

You can't buy a Network Railcard on-line (even though technically I believe it's one of the national railcards)

It's not on the poster or list of national railcards and the leaflets expire at a different time, so I don't think so.

You may be able to get one or 2 days leeway from a friendly clerk, but is not officially allowed. Definitely not for a week, as the railcard has no start date!

I believe it's a 'national railcard' by virtue of the fact that anyone from anywhere can buy one.

The local railcards are usually restricted to people living in a particular geographic area.

Obviously, the Network Railcard can only be used in the Network Railcard area.

I was thinking in terms of the local railcards in the page on nationalrail.co.uk. Going by the links, the Network Railcard and the Valley Lines railcards have no residency requirement.
