Given that White Rose construction has been halted due to cost and with Elland being in a similar location ie on an embarkment, needing lifts and a bridge, car park and other improvement works in the vicinity, is this likely to go ahead? I personally hope so but I wouldn't be surprised if this got canned.
Different funding pot I believe. White Rose was subject to private funding I think.

That's correct. White Rose is being funded by Leeds City Council (funds that were initially allocated for the axed trolleybus scheme) and the owners of the White Rose Business Park.
Elland is a public project, though I can't recall the source(s?) of funding. Hopefully Elland won't suffer quite so many problems as White Rose, though given it was supposed to have opened along with Brighouse it is a quarter of a century late!

I just read a news item that Liverpool Baltic has been approved .
Funding package referred to in various news articles, a snip at just under £100m!
BBC news article

New Liverpool Baltic station set for £96m funding

A £96m package to fund the construction of the new Liverpool Baltic railway station is set to be signed off next week.
The redevelopment of the unused station, on the Merseyrail Northern Line, was first announced in 2022.
Members of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will be asked to approve the cash injection when they meet next week and a formal planning application could be submitted to Liverpool City Council next month.
Pending approvals from the Department for Transport, construction could begin next year.
<edit>
The £96m required for the station will come from the £710m City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS), dedicated to major transport projects across the city region.

Working on / close to a live railway in many cases, this restricting access to short possessions, costs of rail replacement buses, compensation to operators, inefficient working practices due to the stop / start nature of the job rather than just cracking on.

It is difficult to compare costs (without the detailed item by item breakdown under Standard Method of Measurement) due to the varied nature of each project. Examples include immediate access roads, off-site highway improvements, accessible bridges, car parks, bus interchanges and so on.

Brent Cross West was a LOT more than £40m.
err, yes, err, must be a typing mistake.

I can find a figure of £419m quoted as part of the opening announcement. I guess I put £40 instead of £400!

In my defence, the linked story in 'Construction Enquirer' here does say £40m

VolkerFitzpatrick wins £40m Brent Cross West Station

Great bit of research there!

When it was announced, Low Moor was costed at half as much (around the £5m mark). We (WYPTE) had to sell off the rolling stock we owned to make up some of the difference.

My experience of rail projects is: add six months for every 18 months quoted on the build time, and add 100% of the original finger-in-the-air cost for every four years it takes.

Bright sunny day, ideal for some autumn trimming of dead branches.

I have removed a number of 'New Stations Fund' (NSF) and 'Restoring Your Railway' (RYR) proposals from the table at #1. This follows the announcement by the Chancellor at the end of July cancelling RYR (as an overall programme) and a distinct lack of progress on certain NSF proposals. Some NSF and RYR proposals remain in the list as they seem to have life as stand-alone proposals. However my secateurs and loppers remain on standby.

Reinstated. I see this one is active with funding approved (£1m) to develop the business case.

Okehampton Interchange 'on course' to open in Feb 2026.

Okehampton Interchange

THE timeframe for completing Okehampton’s second railway station is tight but it is still on course to open in February 2026.
The track design has been completed, and the 200-space car park design and “active travel” elements are now commencing for Okehampton Interchange station, which has secured £13.5 million of levelling up funding.

Vegetation will start to be cleared on site as soon as Natural England has approved a licence that shows the effect on dormice has been considered.
Work on the station has already cost nearly half a million pounds, and a further £5 million is being spent in the current financial year. The remaining £9.5 million will be used in the following 12 months, according to a report for West Devon Borough Council’s hub committee.

Thanks for your recent update to the list in post 1. However, in the light of the above article, you may wish to amend the list further by removing the following proposals, or at least put a note against them stating that they are at major risk of imminent cancellation:
  • Pill
  • Portishead
  • White Rose [WRO]
  • East Leeds Parkway / Thorpe Park
  • Edginswell
  • Haxby P & R
  • Waverley (South Yorkshire)
  • Wellington
It is interesting to note that of these 8 stations, 4 are in SW England and 4 in Yorkshire.

It could go either way of course depends on whether its a deliberate leak to promote negative feedback from the local MPs and campaign groups to heap pressure on Reeves. At the end of the day 85m saving is a rounding error in the alleged 22B problem. Also its well trailed now that Reeves is likely to amend fiscal rules to allow investment spending not to count against the debt/gdp ratio so they can invest in productive additions like the eg Portishead line. Going off topic if i was Haigh i would be banging the drum as to why these projects costs so much in the first place.

There is a thread discussing the article here.

I have reviewed the article in question. As the saying goes 'I will not be commenting on speculation'. When there is a definitive announcement, yay or nay, I shall update #1 accordingly. A number of the proposals in the 'Other proposals being progressed' part of the table were dubious cases anyway.

A futher update on the new station for Waterbeach can be found in the the papers pubished today by the GCP/Cambridgeshire County Council:-

https://cambridgeshire.cmis.uk.com/ccc_live/MeetingsCalendar/tabid/70/ctl/ViewMeetingPublic/mid/397/Meeting/2232/Committee/36/Default.aspx

Key bit on timings is as follows

Delivery Programme
2.10 The timescale for delivery of the new station and haul road is subject to the
appointment of a contractor, it should be noted that delays have occurred due to the
elongated discussions with the developer, and the processes required by Network
Rail to sign off the initial design. Therefore, the latest indicative programme is:
• Detail Design and Delivery Contract Start– Mid 2025.
• Detail Design End– Winter 2026.
• Haul Road Construction – Summer 2025- Winter 2026.
• Station Construction Start –2026.
• Station Construction End –2027.

This will be followed by appropriate Network Rail processes to bring the station into
service, including ensuring that it aligns with an appropriate timetable change.

Belfast Grand Central confirmed as opening tomorrow, details in the thread linked from #1.

I have moved Wixams to the first part of the table. The linked thread has updates showing the site compound being established. Also a 'letter to neighbours' giving dates for the works.

I have added Hairmyres to the table. It is a relocation 600m west of the current site, so should probably be regarded as a new station. It is part of the East Kilbride / Barrhead electrification / upgrade. See that thread for more information - linked at #1.

White Rose.
I have found a news article which suggest that construction may restart in 2025 with completion in the same year. I've put the full text on the station page linked from #1.

Excerpt (from the Yorkshire Evening Post here):
A West Yorkshire Combined Authority spokesperson said: “Following the temporary pause in construction at White Rose station, it is hoped that issues can be resolved with a view to work restarting on site in early 2025 and the completion of the project later in the year.
