I picked up a ticket with the new National Rail logo this morning. The text across it now says "National Rail" rather than "Rail Settlement Plan"

How long have these tickets been out? Sorry if this is old news.

There is a trial at the moment. Where did you collect your tickets from? Paddington?

Noticed someone with one of these tickets tuva day ago. Think they'd travelled up from London, would have assumed they boarded at Kings Cross, but not too sure.

As far as I'm aware, they've not made it to EMT land yet.

I wasn't actually aware of the new design, but will be keeping an eye out for it.

When I read about a ticket redesign, I was hoping for a little more than the BR symbol being adjusted.

Probably more to do with the advertising.

I can understand the new National Rail logo being on the ticket, but why did "Rail Settlement Plan" need replacing with "National Rail"?

I've been told, not sure if it's true, that on the rear of the ticket, is a box marked 'Endorsements' is this the case?

Has anyone got any ideas as to it's use? I do wonder if they're likely to be used by staff making up rules and writing them on the tickets?!

I've not heard anything official, indeed - this is the first I've heard of the changed design. From my point of view, the endorsements box is where you'd write 'Restrictions Advised' for a ticket sold at a time when it is invalid or an endorsement to allow later travel on an Advance if a service is cancelled or delayed. This is useful - as at present space can be limited, though the current examples show the problem of advertising persists.

Possibly because "Rail Settlement Plan" means absolutely nothing to the average passenger?

There's still what must be a reference to Rail Settlement Plan in the bottom left (RSP No...).

National Rail certainly makes more sense to Joe Public.

Of course what we need now is an update to the amount of detail that can be included on a standard design ticket - such as an extra line for restriction information, or smaller/proportional text. It would be a big step to allow for more than 16 characters but would solve so many issues!

Unlike others, I am not proposing a radical or all-new ticket design, and doubt there would be much point when I'd hope and expect smartcards to come in within the next 5-10 years and make paper tickets virtually obsolete. That probably means ATOC fully intends to do exactly the opposite. :)

(for the transition, you'd have systems printing the crnt shortnd txt on machines that can't print more text and longer text on those that can - until all equipment is updated).
