GWR are increasing the price of Sleeper packages by £10 which means for example a Solo berth at £135 will now be virtually same price as Super Off Peak Single + berth supplement price. If holding a railcard or making a return journey obviously it's a no brainer to use walk up tickets. The availability / price of cheaper tier currently £79 is unknown as none showing up presently even looking ahead to September.

As a matter of interest can you get priv rate on the Night Riviera? If so, how can you book it?
You used to get priv tickets but the berth fee was undiscounted. So use your priv for the ticket element and then book the berth with the fee. Prob best done at a ticket office or maybe via GWR call centre. Not sure if the inclusive fares have a different system. Hopefully someone with more up to date experience will post to advise.

Wow that's expensive!
OeBB's NightJet from Munich to Rome, has sparschiene (advances) from €29,99, you then pay a supplement for a couchette or a berth.
Is the £79 for a berth then? Is it a whole berth, or just one bed in a berth?

well, prices "start from £49" as they say - an inclusive fare for single occupancy of a room

all explained here with full pricing

In theory you might think better value might be achieved by getting (now worthless) Mk3 sleepers from Scottish routes about to be scrapped, refurb to the standard GW are doing with theirs, lengthen the trains offering more beds for lower prices. But presumably the economics don't stack up for that and DfT not up for financing it, happy to just offer the 5 or 6 carriage Cornish sleeper that the service usually runs (despite the peak demand that must exist in summer) that was agreed at last franchise after the service was at risk of withdrawal.

Of course it is Scottish devolution that means the Scottish Parliament was prepared (and able) to invest in their service. With no English regional rail devolution Cornish services are over dependent on DfT decision making on such matters.

You can get PRIV rate Sleeper Advance tickets but they have a small Quota (in August you have more chance of building a snowman) and can only be booked at stations.
