A number of trains – starting with the 16.00 Colchester Town to Colchester – have been terminated or cancelled this afternoon due to a member of train crew being unavailable.

The 16.20 Colchester to Colchester Town, the 19.52 Ipswich to London Liverpool Street and the 20.38 London Liverpool Street to Colchester Town and the 22.00 Colchester Town to Colchester have also been cancelled.

Four other trains have had their schedules altered – the 16.35 Colchester Town to London Liverpool Street will be started from Colchester.

Both the 18.02 London Liverpool Street to Ipswich and 18.52 Ipswich to London Liverpool Street will be terminated at Colchester, and the 20.09 Ipswich to London Liverpool Street will no longer call at Ipswich and Manningtree.

anyone why train crews are missing?

Don't know Colchester or even AGA as a whole, but if it's like the rest of the railway, a 'traincrew member' or two has decided to enjoy his/her rest day (or day off in laymans terms) in the sun with his/her family instead of volunteering to work it.

This shows us all how reliant the railway is on rest day working.

Or someone has gone sick/had an accident/parents have died and there is no relief to cover them.

Great Northern manage loads of cancellations in a day due to staff issues, all supposedly off sick according to Twitter. Mostly Sunday but not exclusively.

For Sunday users, the engineering work this weekend probably won't seem much different to a normal day tomorrow (Sunday). Possibly better!

Believe it was only one driver that was unwell, the others were pulled off diagrams and moved around to run a few key services out of Liverpool Street.

Without being cynical, it's pretty often the case that coverage will be worse around school holidays, bank holidays, good weather etc.

More annual leave or special leave requests for a start (anything to do with childcare basically can't be refused), and almost guaranteed to be an increase in sickness. Spare cover even on normal weekends often varies between patchy and non-existant, add in some short-notice sickness and there's only so much juggling that can be done before cancellations become inevitable.

Happens less the smaller the roster is because there's more chance of people having it done back to them.
