"No Sanding"

I know that this image is from the Train Simulator2012 game, and it shows on the new Scottish East Coast Mainline.

But why would you have sections of 'no sanding' ?

I apologise if it's a stupid question, but i can't for the life of me figure it out.

Does the sand jam the points? I see a set of points just beyond the sign.

That sign doesn't mean "no sanding". It indicates the end of an area where Sandite has to be applied, e.g. on the approach to a station.
