Photos have been published of a new six-axle AC electric locomotive, designed and built in North Korea.

I particularly like the driver's cab. So practical to have office chairs that aren't fixed to the floor.

North Korean engineers revealed the design and build of a new, modern electric train locomotive — the latest update to the country’s transportation sector, which has undergone a range of modernization efforts in recent years.

On Tuesday, North Korean state media showed off a blue-and-white colored loco, which features a curved body and much smoother design than previous North Korean rail power units. It appears to be the first design with an asynchronous motor completed since 2011.

“A six-axle alternating-current electric locomotive with high capacity and improved traction force, speed and controllability has been developed in the DPRK,” the Pyongyang Times stated.

It was reportedly designed and built by a team comprising workers and engineers from the Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Complex...

Looks French. And that cab is about as bland as they come!

In conclusion, I'd love to score it.

That cab looks like a home enthusiast simulator cab, switches and levers from a real cab plonked on a desk with a normal office chair lol

Seems to be a lack of grills on the side, are we sure it's electric powered and not inmates from labour camps inside pedelling?

Love those seats, look really practical in the event of an emergency stop or crash.

That makes a lot of sense, because North Korea's homegrown locomotives are based in part on those old Škoda locomotives.

To be fair to them, the cab looks rather less amateurish than the Shanghai Airport Maglev. There aren't any power adaptors or fans loose on the floor...

They might have built it, They've built quite a few electric locomotives in the past. Back in 2011 they unveiled a new electric locomotive that they claimed was domestically developed, but borrowed heavily from Chinese designs and wasn't built in any quantity. The fact that it looks modern doesn't really tell us a huge amount, since we don't know what's actually inside the fancy looking bodyshell, and the bodyshell looks pretty odd too. But for a lot of developing countries being seen to manufacture something like this domestically is more important in terms of propaganda and national pride than actual utility, this factor is multiplied by ten for the more kleptocratic dictatorships like North Korea.

I'm not an expert on trains, but that Cab looks exceptionally bare, and the controls seem quite... strange? The brass brake levers on the left hand side don't really fit in with the more modern controls and electronic displays. The main controls are offset pretty far to the left and those screens and buttons on the shiny control panel won't really be accessible to the driver on the left hand office chair? Maybe in production models the office chairs will come on wheels?

The picture of the cab of the Shanghai maglev makes it look like it's a loft and the two front windows are Velux ones!
At least the big Siemens electrical cabinet is somewhat reassuring.

There's a handle on the side of the loco but there doesn't appear to be a door into the cab.
The door could be behind the camera in the cab view. However the side window in the cab view looks different to outside so i wonder if thats a training mock-up.

Shades of the North Korean navy where one genuine patrol boat was multiple photoshopped to provide a whole fleet!

I did not know IKEA is present in Northern Korea , i suppose that is where they got chairs from . Lol

No doubt , there is Billy bookshelf somewhere , with drivers gear laid on it.

A single door on the right hand side of each cab seems to be standard for North Korea, so that would explain no door being visible in some pictures.
Yes looking at photos of other North Korean electric locos I can see that some don't have doors on each side. It does seem rather odd though. But then this is just about the oddest country in the world.
