Just wondered, Would the class 333 be better suited on long distance route such as Chester - Manchester - Leeds once its electrified or other electric long distance service instead of converting them into metro style train?
I also came up with an idea with the so called Northern Connect service as well as other service, see what you all think.
The hourly Leeds/Bradford to Manchester Airport be extended to Birmingham International via Crewe and Wolverhampton.
two or three trains a day Liverpool Lime St - Windermere
Southport - Leeds and Leeds - Lincoln merge into one service.
2 hourly Carlisle - Manchester Airport via settle & carlisle line, Chilteroe, Blackburn and Bolton with a 2 hourly Carlisle - Leeds with some extended to Hull giving a hourly between Carlisle and Settle.
Stoke on Trent - Manchester - Liverpool via Warrington.
