142079 is on 15:59 off Whitby, Not a very good allocation as this particular journey is used by School Children and im sure NYCC insisted a Class 156 was to be allocated.

Comes from Hexham since the May timetable change and is now quite a regular occurrence. Prior to that, the same unit worked the line for the whole day.

What's a Pacer like to ride on to Whitby?
I've only been as far as Danby on one.
If I have a day with nothing better to do I might find out. From my nearest station, Hartlepool, a Sunday might be best, as there are several direct trains. But doing both legs in daylight might be tricky this time of year, unless I stay on the train at Whitby and come straight back.

Not very good, Grosmont corner kills most of them they struggle to get around it screeching and slipping! I saw one leaving one Sunday afternoon it looked like it was about to come of rails. Very bouncy between Danby and lealholm. Screeching around all the corners especially Ruswarp to Whitby under the viaduct! The line is not suited for them what so ever!

Where is 142001 likely to be on the Network? And what is all the lines they operate?

No idea where it is today. However, I have been on that particular unit on a Manchester-Altrincham-Chester service. From Manchester 142s pretty much go everywhere except Buxton, Glossop and Stoke. Although, they don't make regular appearances on any routes which are fully electrified or the Clitheroe line.

Highly unlikely to be in the North East. Never seen it up here in 28 years of working on the railway. However there have been reported sightings of it in the area on a couple of occasions.

It was one of the ones which went to FGW so got withdrawn for a while following old Northern getting additional 158s, before being reinstated in the South West and then returning to the North West to be used again.

Briefly popped into Preston station whilst Xmas shopping on Saturday. Around 2.30pm

142001 and 142047 arrived running Blackpool North to Blackburn
142003 and 142050 sat in Platform 2 terminated having ran from Blackpool South.

Interesting is I have 142050 down as a Heaton unit, but I've seen it twice now in 3 weeks in the North West. Has it transferred to Newton Heath or on loan?

Was out and about around Manchester/Stockport on Sunday and only recorded 023. It might be what they do on Sunday, putting the 15X units on service, leaving the Pacers out.
Can't say for Vic, as I never got there.

Can you be a little clear, please, as not everybody knows every Train number of the top of their heads. There are 2 x 2N04s on the system that could possible be 142 worked.

You're going to love this: there's 3 2N04's with potential to be worked by pacers, and guess what...

2N04 0609 Hexham - Salburn 142089
2N04 0748 Leeds - Sheffield 142070 & 142067
2N04 1101 Ormskirk - Preston 142045
