I don't think London crew sign 745s yet, so half the Norwich services will have to be 321s, when the full service resumes.

I’m not sure that can be right, otherwise how are the first trains from London and last back at night resourced? Anyway isn’t all training suspended at the moment?

They've run together following failures etc without any issue.
I know they ran as an 8 car on Leeds to KX during the sandy incident which resulted 225s being grounded for checks back in 1998

Worth bearing in mind that Northern didn't run their Class 321/322s in multiple, not sure if they'll be compatible with GA's existing 321s.
That was mainly due to platform lengths along the routes they used to work on - they were mainly restricted to 4 car sets as opposed to 8 cars (which imo should’ve been operating).

8 car 321's on Leeds to Kings Cross?!?! Would have loved to have had a 321 on that

London do sign Class 745s otherwise they wouldn't be on the first down or the last up of the day.
GE Class 321s and the Class 322s have worked together and did so during Ipswich tunnel blockade and I see no reason why the former West Coast Main Line versions won't work with both fleets either.

Is there another user planned for the 321s/322s?

It would be good to see some converted 321s/322’s (which would be returning to Scotland again!) in the form of 320s. They could be used to help strengthen the North Clyde/Argyle Line as well as help out on the Cathcart Circle/Paisley Canal/Newton/Neilston lines previously operated by 314s.

This would allow the 380s and 385s to be able to operate Ayrshire/Inverclyde as they are unsuitable for short workings like Cathcart.

Scotrail will probably be looking at replacement of their 318/320 fleet this decade. But it would be worth keeping the speculation on a more suitable thread.

Without diverting the thread further, I completely agree with you. The "Project Renatus" style 321s would be perfect as 320s for the Glasgow area. Possibly replacing the 318s as well and using large numbers of the soon to be redundant 321/322s.

Who knows, the GA Renatus units will need a home in the next couple of years...

Would be ideal if they aren’t using them elsewhere.

The 318s and 320s I think will go together and will be replaced by one big order I’d assume. They have all been refurbed they still have a good few years in them I’d say.

Before CV, I could probably see them getting hold of more 321s to convert to 320s to boost fleet availability to create more 6 coach workings for any remaining 3 coach services during peak time (for lines which need 6 coaches). Then in around 5-10 years time both fleets getting replaced.

As for Northern, it will be strange for me to head to Leeds and not see any 321/2s in the low end bay platforms working towards Skipton/Bradford/Illkey

I hear 321 903 has been parked up at Wakefield for a few days. Northern are always short of siding space particularly at the moment so probably there because Neville hills full.

Crikey, I thought that they would be gone by 2021 (or when platform 0 was done). It seemed like just a couple of months ago they were everywhere - My morning train became a reliable Dusty Bin working. Now we’ve got plenty of CAFs to go out and enjoy, oh wait.

The 331s are available, driver training is sufficient to introduce them, 99% of conductors are trained. You may find if the current situation is cleared up quickly then dusty bins may have a few weeks left but I'd say that theyve probably seen their last days because they're not needed for the vastly reduced timetable

So how long have the remaining sets got left realistically? Are Northern waiting on 331s or 333s back from refurbishment? And where will they go once all 331s and 333s are in service?

If you still need them for haulage you may have better luck in Essex in a few months, rather than in Yorkshire right now!

(Especially as we're only supposed to make essential trips!)

Have they actually been doing work in Essex? I know 901&902 are in Clacton but why would Greater Anglia need them?

Because they are about to start loosing stock to other operators (namely 360s to EMR) but the replacement stock isn't in use yet. They're also more PRM-TSI compliant than most of GA's 321s and so ought to be used to replace them where possible

have all 3 321/9s moved to GA now? because someone has, quite wrongly, put on wikipedia that all 3 have moved and are in service. i've fixed it as best I can quickly.

with regard to the 321/9 have west Yorkshire combined authority sold the units ? they recently sold the 155 fleet to a leasing company as they required a lot of money to be spent on them, but was not aware that the 321/9's had also been sold

As far as I'm aware they were never owned outright by the PTE. Only the 155s and 144 centre cars were. Their use under BR and since privatisation was "sponsored" by the PTE who I believe effectively paid the leasing costs incurred by the TOC for those units. The 10 158s were in the same situation.

Travel South Yorkshire also contributed to the leasing costs of some units in more recent years, hence some 144s and 153s bearing their logo. They also plugged the funding gap for the 4th class 333 vehicles, to retain 4 carriages on the Doncaster services.
