Is this a good time for ECS and stock moves? Fine if all goes to plan (only one isolated driver required) but will breach social distancing in case of failures.

There are plenty of short platforms on the routes the six-car 331s work at the moment between Blackpool and Hazel Grove.

Are the six car platform extensions finished now?
They havent started any apart from glacial progress of platform zero at Leeds which is taking around 2 years.
A reminder that for SDO the terminating platforms like Leeds and Skipton must be full length.

57310 and 57305 took 331111 from Allerton to Skipton today. It is reported that all six 331/1 (331102/03/05/07/11/12) are being transferred east. I assume that they will be replaced on the west side by pairs of 331/0?

What lead to the discussion that the 333/1s are going west, then?

Skipton, Keighley, Shipley (towards Bradford) that's pretty much it without using SDO

Shipley platform 5 (towards Bradford) can only just fit a 333 (4 car). The only platform long enough to fit a 6 car train is platform 3, used for trains heading towards Leeds and Ilkley from Bradford.

With the current lockdown in force has this given Northern an opportunity to commission more 331s and 195s so that when things return to normal all units will be available? If this has been covered elsewhere sorry.

Platform 3 is also bi-directional - very handy in times of disruption

I imagine most TOCs are not allowing more than one person in a cab at a time, so commissioning may be a bit difficult.

I suspect there is no rush to introduce the last units and train remaining staff as there is no need. In reality there is going to be no massive "rush" back to using public transport once normality can resume in some capacity (probably July/August). Some companies will adopt a phased approach and many staff will carry on working from home until autumn. Additionally most services will be reintroduced but I reckon we will not return to a full working timetable (pre-March) until timetable change in December.

A phased ramp-up to something approaching normality might provide opportunities for accepting more new trains and training more staff. Will need some careful planning though!

If the rumours of all four car sets going to Neville Hill comes off all the three car sets will be at Allerton and no six car sets will be running in Yorkshire.

Isn't that a fairly big over subscription of units to the east? The 333s aren't going anywhere, and it's far more than the 321/322 fleet.

This arangement is likely to be temporary as Northern are probably waiting for platform 0 to be completed - There's no point in having a load of 331/0s sat around at Neville Hill and Skipton Broughton Road so they might as well put them to use somewhere - possibly in place of single 323 workings to accelerate the rate of 323 refurbishments and take some non PRM-compliant trains out of service.

Furthermore, double 331/0s have been tested around the 333's stomping ground and have visited all of the stations - See post #1611.

Have any more 4 car 331/1s moved east after was it 111 and 112. Presumably if the remaining 4 move over they can send the remaing 321 and 322s off lease.

In this context it might be worthwhile re-iterating here that for some time now Network Rail's published completion date for platform zero and the associated track and signalling works, is December 2021, and given the virus situation, that is almost certain to slip till May 2022 at the least.

Network rails leeds improvement website shows Spring 2021.
I suspect it will current crisis permitting be tied into fitting a couple more points over Christmas. See pic taken a couple of days ago.

Thanks for that link, most useful. The Network Rail October 2019 enhancements delivery plan says the whole project will be complete Dec 2021, but I am guessing that includes the rest of the project, not just Platform 0.

But that's going off topic, and there is a thread on Leeds Imps elsewhere.

Considering they had what 8? 321/322 and have been short of a 333 for a long time 12 4 car units in the east will be the first time in a long time they can comfortably run the service with out having to potentially put a DMU onto the jobs. It makes sense to concentrate the 3 cars and 4 cars on their respective areas. I believe some 6 car testing was done on the east though
