Northern Conductor Training 2021

Hi All,

Hope you're well,

Despite COVID, I've managed to secure a medical after passing the interview for a prospective start date of 1st March for a Conductor based as Blackpool North.

I've read a few posts on here but just wondering what I can expect if Medical Is successful in terms of contracts, training, the whole recruit experience if you will.

I would be grateful to hear your stories and advice,

When did you have your interview and were you in a talent pool?

I applied originally for the position in August and just had the standard emails about recruitment being slow etc due COVID. I received a phone call on the 7th of January this month to ask if I could attend an interview on the Thursday. I received notification a week later stating id passed, Medical is booked for later this month for a Prospective start date of March 1st. I was never in the talent pool, just had to wait a while for interview.

How long was it after they said you passed the interview before they offered you a medical and a prospective start??

I am on hold for the same position just waiting for a start date. They didn't mention a talent pool to me in the email so not sure if im just waiting for another course to open up (maybe limiting numbers due to covid) Where is your training is it manchester? Cant wait to get started myself i am so impatient the wait is killing me!!

I am! I am very much looking forward to a new starts and new career. I’m coming from Aviation where I lost my job earlier last year due Covid! Training is in Manchester I was told at interview, just want to get cracking!

Onwards and upwards! Yeah they mentioned manchester to me too, but I noticed on another post someone has a couse date booked in march for Leeds so wasn't sure. Where is your medical?

Blackpool too!!

During the interview they said there was a few positions available, a few for northern and few for extpe. It came out of the blue and i wasnt expecting it so didnt have much time to prepare for the interview.

Yeah I successfully passed the interview but was told I am currently on hold pending a start date. Just praying it won't be too long!!

I hope so but its looking unlikely at the minute. I suppose its all about numbers especially with covid. Just have to wait and see. Hopefully you will get a contract once your medical is done let me know how you get on!!

I guessed from your username you were from aviation. I worked at Egcc for about 8 years before leaving to go to Egnh, unfortunately just before it closed to commercial traffic and I lost my job. We’re you at Blackpool too?

I was at EGCC for 6 years on the Q400. I lost my job start of last year when Flybe went under I fly locally out of EGNH as I'm from Preston. I've always had a passion for the Railways and Aviation so thought why not give it a change and see where things lead

That was a shame about Flybe, we used to handle them before I left. Same for me mate, after redundancy I decided on a change and used my HGV licence and now I feel it’s time for another complete change

That was quick. I had my interview via zoom in July. Only got offered position a week ago to start 15th March with medical next Wednesday.

Hello so iv just had a call to start my course on monday. Iv no idea of where and when im waiting for them to email me everything over i applied for dispatch at manchester back in aug/sept. Anyone else starting monday?

Wondering if anyone can help, I applied for the conductor apprenticeship at Newcastle in august 2020, I passed both online tests and was waiting to hear about a potential interview but it was put on hold and still is, does anyone know when it will be up and running again?
