Northern emergency timetable

So one random unadvertised bus replacement which will no doubt be empty to allow northern management to report back 'we tried running buses but they weren't used, can we ditch them,?'

When I looked on Saturday night, the buses were showing on National Rail Enquiries, at least on the Manchester - Crewe route.

Andy Burnham has been very vociferous about the temporary timetable and the need to run RRBs and gave Northern senior management a massive rollocking at the TfN meeting.

He also insisted they organised ticket acceptance on the next train, irrespective of company, during cancellations.

The DOR operators, Northern and TPE in this case, have already announced this, though it'd be interesting to know if he had anything to do with it. Of course Avanti, XC and EMR aren't included, but they form a very small proportion of intra-Greater Manchester journeys, mostly just Manchester-Stockport.

I suspect he (and the other Mayors) did have something to do with it, as the meeting was a week or so before the announcement. It was good fun to watch the Northern management try to squirm out of it, citing all sorts of issues. He was adamant that this must be introduced, as their service was so dire and it could be several hours before the next Northern service pitched up.

In April Labour issued their "Getting Britain Moving" document; "https://labour.org.uk/wp-content/up...ING-Labours-Plan-to-Fix-Britains-Railways.pdf".

On page 15 it states,
Operationsa resource-led, viable timetable will be devised, agreed with the Secretary of State, and implemented at speed to tackle train crew management, timetabling, and service delivery issues. Existing private operators will need to be held strictly to account against contractual performance criteria to ensure that they do not allow services to deteriorate in advance of their contracts expiring.
So conveniently let DfT Operators off the hook not that SoS has dealt with GWR and XC's abysmal Sunday offerings either

It makes sense and puts it in context if you read the whole of the sentence. The sentence wouldn't make sense if the DOHL operators were included.

DfT has just published 18th December, a breach remedial notice dated July due to excess cancellations in multiple periods.

Says there is an an agreed plan (but details seems to have been redacted), so wonder if this emergency timetable is part of the plan agreed 4-5 months ago

The fact that DfT has to resort to legal speak over an operator its supposedly owns shows just how much the industry needs to be changed.

A cover-up? Nah, just an under-staffed press office!
Suppress bad new until you can pretend that something has been done about it... Except that, as a passenger, it doesn't exactly feel as though things are currently on the up.!

Interesting to see the Northern Emergency timetable this Sunday has been updated.
Preston to Blackpool South line was due to be a 2 hourly train service.

Notice now suggests it will a bus service

The emergency timetable was a little too optimistic it would seem, which isn't a surprise.

I did expect that for this week and next. Unless money is tight most won't volunteer that close to Christmas, particularly if they've got leave booked for their main working days. At least they've got buses in.
