As from December they will be allocated to Heaton. This will be for maintenance purposes only. But they will need to be taken from Newcastle Central to the depot. York drivers don't sign that route.

Is this due to Heaton having more depot capacity than Neville Hill?

Anyone got any knowledge on the latest in terms of withdrawals? It would seem 142009/52 has been put into storage yet 142022/46 seems to be back into service again so like for like swop? Also a photo on the pacer trains group has 142032 on a NE diagram today so could that unit be the next one to go into storage/withdrawn? It would seem going by Simons post 142066 has been withdrawn so effectively only 2 pacers has been fully withdrawn so far.

I thought yesterday marked the day when a good amount of pacers will be withdrawn yet that does not seem to be the case?

It strikes me that, with leaf fall season starting, Pacers have one last duty before being withdrawn ... to be around for duty while wheel flats get sorted.

In fact, they can do better than that by taking on /more/ duties with flats, and leave in December with those flats unattended. That way the lathes will have shorter queues

The only thing that gets in the way is room to stable all the old & new trains

Recent moves to Heaton (HT) of Newton Heath (NH) or Neville Hill (NL) Pacers (to the best of my knowledge):
17/10/2019 5A60 1921 York-HT was 142009+142052 (these were used in the North East on 18/10/2019 but haven't worked since). 142091 was also on 5A60 but that's a Heaton unit anyway.
20/10/2019 5G92 1945 NL-HT was Newton Heath unit 142037 and Heaton units 142092+142093.
20/10/2019 5A12 2117 NL-HT was Newton Heath unit 142038 and Neville Hill units 144005+144016. 142038 is in use on the Durham coast today.
21/10/2019 5A60 1921 York-HT was Newton Heath unit 142032 and Heaton unit 142030. 142032 is on Bishop Auckland - Saltburn services today.
22/10/2019 5A60 1921 York-HT tonight should be Heaton unit 142013 and Newton Heath unit 142039.

The Newton Heath 142s therefore seem to be slowly gravitating to Heaton.

Number 38 is also knocking around the NE today so I'm told so possibly another one for storage at Heaton.

Number 50 is also warm stored so I've been told.

Thanks for the informative post 3270, so I'm assuming those units that have been transferred will all be warm stored so we are definately starting to make some inroads it seems into the withdrawal process.

Presumably for Heaton to withdraw its Pacers something else will have to move there.
I've not noticed any 150, 156 or 158s heading there since all Notherns Perkins engined 158s and I dont believe any 195s are for Heaton.
Anyone have any info.

I have seen something about Heaton being allocated additional 158s, but no idea which ones I'm afraid.

There won't be any 150s though, I don't think they're cleared to operate in the North East.

Certainly makes sense to be transferring them north on 5A60 and presumably Heaton have been sending them out for a day to use their remaining fuel up before storing them. My guess is we'll see more of this over the next few weeks as more and more 195s come on stream, after all they need the space for more units in Yorkshire.

Certainly one of the Saltburn runs has become a 158 diagram from a 142 last week, suggesting the transfer of more 158s onto diagrams in the North East

There is now booked to be a 144/2 and a 144/3 shown spare at Heaton, so that’s matches with what was sent up there.

I’d start looking at Exam Mileages and Classified mileages for the next 142’s to be withdrawn.

The 158 diagram is the one that works 18 past the even hour from Darlington and 17 past the odd hour from Saltburn during the day. It was a 158 Monday but a 142 on Tuesday. Yesterday I understand it was a 158 again.

I'm not sure but I think the 2240 to Middlesbrough is the unit that comes from Middlesbrough empty. It arrives from Nunthorpe then goes empty to Darlington.

A 150 leading a 156. Should we tell them?;)
EDIT: I missed the Merseyrail PEP
(28/3/19, page 22, post 655 - referencing article linked in post 651)
The image on the article has now actually been changed to a 142! Amazing!!!

As much as I hate these blighters, it's going to be a little sad when they're not pottering around the network. It would be great if we could keep a track (pun intended) on their demise. If posters can add details of withdrawals to the list in my next post it would be appreciated. Thanks.

005 is withdrawn, being stripped for parts and will go off to booths when Newton Heath are done with it.

Bad news for passengers backs then.
Yeah, for some reason there seems to be a desperate race to remove Heaton's comparatively comfortable individual seated units from service, so that they can be replaced in the North East by 1980s bus seated examples displaced from Newton Heath. I'm sure there's sound reasoning to this based on times until heavy exams, but from a passenger's perspective it seems quite mental.
