Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone who's applied for roles with Northern rail depots know what the current timescale is for getting back to applicants? I'm aware the railway isn't the fastest anyway and obviously covid19 wont be helping. It just would be nice to know when other people heard things back for their applications. Thanks in advance

Its a case of 'how long is piece of string??' Some people hear within a week others can wait months if not years! What position and depot have you applied for?

Timescale was painfully slow pre-covid so I can only assume that’s still the case and some.

Mine active one was very quick from application to invite for interview. It was 3 weeks in total from applying, to doing the test and then invite.
Took 10 days from interview to be put in the talent pool (which is now taking its time and the clocks ticking).
However, I've had applications in the past with various toc's that I've not heard anything in months and then rejected.
Rail recruitment really does seem to be how longs a piece of string.

As frustrating as it is there doesn’t seem to be any order to the way they recruit. I waited 5 months and the position was filled before they’d even looked at my application but you have other applicants that are put into talent pools then others after them go straight to start dates.

I’d love to know what order they work in but I suspect it’s just pick a random application and see if it fits the bill

Haha yeah thats true!! I actually work for cross country so I've experienced their process firsthand. This is actually a post on behalf of a friend, its for the designated person/depot support role at Newcastle.
Wish all job adverts had to have a maximum wait time for response, would make life so much easier!

Congratulations! Hope all goes well for you. What role have you applied for? How long did they take to response?

Possibly first come first served, bit crappy if you're a better candidate but who knows ‍♀️. Just gotta keep our fingers crossed!
