Any updates on the transfer of the 170s and 158s from Scotrail, as mentioned in my previous post?
Scotrail may be hanging onto them till after the golf open at st Andrews.
I hear that they will be most likely used on the Nottingham where they can stretch there legs a bit rather than Leeds Southport. The ones on the harrogate line must use vast quantities of fuel as they never get out of first gear ( 65mph) as that's the line speed is also 65mph.
Perhaps they need regearing to suit Northerns mostly slow network.

That’ll be a few years then - the Open is at Carnoustie this year!

I didn't realise Northern had two more 153s - 153370 and 377 were out and around Leeds today in GWR dark green.

Caught me by surprise, I could see two on the platforms and assumed it was 373 and 380, then a lash-up of 153377, a Northern purple 153 and white 156 working 1U00 appeared, much to my confusion.

Thanks for this. I was surprised to have 153370 for haulage today at Manchester Victoria until I saw your post.

So that's 153305, 370, 373, 377 and 380 that have come up from the South-West.

Anyone know of any others? Or any more 150s coming up? They seem to be finally helping to reduce the amount of short forming that has been a problem with Northern for months.

150125 and 150126 still to come from GWR but probably not until the end of the year. No more 153s

I believe northern now have 10 ex scotrail 170's. Latest arrivals 170 459, 460, 461, 472, 473, 474 plus existing 475-8
At least 472 and 474 are at Crewe.

I think they are for the Harrogate line and Leeds-Southport services

It has been rather nice to have 156s back in Leeds on the Southport workings. Been about 10 years or so since they were regulars this side of the Pennines.

Indeed! There's also 2 156 diagrams on the Calder Valle route again from this week, with one working the York-Huddersfield-Leeds-Victoria cycle then moving over to Selby-Victoria the following day

I noticed a Northern 158 paired with a 156 through Oxford Road on Thursday. Is this now a regular thing?

1N55, the 0940 Airport to Preston (1004 from Oxford Road) consisted of a 158+156 on Thursday 2nd August. It arrived at Oxford Road 5L and was delayed a further 10 minutes in Platform 2, disrupting following services (I do not know what the problem was).

158s are now booked on some Airport to Barrow services, which interwork with the Airport to Prestons. The 90mph top speed of the 158 is needed for the WCML paths between Preston and Carnforth. I imagine a 156 is added to increase capacity between the Airport and Preston on some services, such as the above.

I thought that 100 mph units were needed on the Barrow service, hence the need for Northern to carry on hiring 185s, which ideally TPE would like back.

Ideally 100mph units are needed, but since May Northern has been allowed to hire only two 185s, which are not enough to cover all the Barrow - Preston/Manchester workings.

90mph 158s are easier to path on the WCML than 75mph 156s or 153s.

See also this post on another thread:
Northern will no longer use class 185's from the December 2018 timetable change.

Any update? I know other threads exist, but this is/was the original.

Specifically, which units were supposed to come to Northern, and which ones have actually arrived? I think we're most of the way along now.

Just 170453 and 458 to cascade now, out of the ScotRail units, 150125/6 to come from GWR before the end of the year, unsure about the 3 150/1s from London north western.

What's happening with 150001/2. Are they staying with GWR?

150105/107/109 will be arriving next year I believe.

EDIT: 156449 and 156496 arrived at Heaton this afternoon.

like the 323s, no idea what's happening to them either.

They have nowhere else to go and the lease is close to running out; I'm sure that Northern could get a good deal to keep them on in the longer term.

This thread "died" because posts re cascading were being posted in the Refurbishmant thread,
