This morning on NL Leeds was a 3 car 333004 with out one of the driving cars, when I saw it a week last Friday the coach had some damage. Does anyone know what it hit. MTIA
I've always wondered something. If there was an issue with the TSO on a 333, then could it still run as a 3 car unit in the meantime?

Yeah they were delivered as 3 car so if it was just the TSO removed then yes

What makes you think that it isn't possible to run them without the TSO?
They were built with 3 cars, but every modification since has been made on the basis that they are permanent 4 car sets. Changes have been made to the TMS, then there's the digi mods and other bits and pieces. Not to mention the confusion that having a single 3-car 333 would cause and the fact that there's enough slack in the electric fleet that it doesn't particularly matter if a unit is long term stopped.

It would take quite a lot of work to get one out in 3 car form, and even then it's only useful if there happens to be some kind of defect on only the TSO that can't be fixed in any reasonable timeframe (such as major body damage) as most things can be fixed quite easily. The chances of that particular set of circumstances are slim.

So in practical terms, no, you'll never see one running in 3 car form.

Travelling north on an Avanti service this evening, we overtook these two Marston Vale 150s on the WCML north of Stafford. Might this be a temporary unit swap for Newton Heath to carry out some heavy maintenance on the LNW units?

Insurance unit as 478 hasn't been in service for 2 years or more.

Post from Brodie Engineering on LinkedIn about 478, note that the interior is done to the same Northern spec as the other ex ScotRail units, however has retained plug sockets.

Brodie Engineering Ltd are delighted to announce a 5 year agreement with Northern for the lease of DMU 156478. Prior to going on lease, the unit has undergone substantial preparatory works including a full C6 overhaul, interior repaint and refresh and exterior repaint and re-livery. All works were successfully undertaken at Brodie Engineering’s Caledonia Works.

What are the chances as soon as there's a fault with them they'll just be isolated.... <D

Isn't 150111 being converted into 150007 with a car from 150226, unsure what's going to be used for 150008 though with the remaining car of 226.

150111 - 7th Sept (or could change)
150226 - 30th Sept (or could change)
156454 - 21st Sept (will probably change)
156468 - 3rd August - confirmed.

150218 - how longs a piece of string? No date yet, there's still quite a bit to replace that have never been replaced before.

I did here Northern were intending to create one or more additional 3 cars as the existing are due overhaul soon.
K
Yes, 150007 & 150008 will be created using 150111 (outers) and half of 226, the other should be 150132 (and the other half of 226).

158755 is undergoing extensive repairs after striking a large metal object left embedded in the track after a piece of overnight engineering works. 158869 has severe corrosion to the front ends behind the gangways found whilst having a C4 overhaul.

Any update on when the 333s will get TrainFX?

And will a few of them still have the Siemens PIS system when they start running Doncasters?
