THe Nottingham tram line is to be extended across Nottingham Midland station. I heard somewhere it is the old route of the Great Central Railway from Victoria.

Is this true?

A bit of history there.

Station street to the side of Nottingham station is closed one way from today due to the tram works.

Things are slowly happening.

The new bridge is pretty much bang on the site of the old GCR one. This page is really handy for understanding the old GCR route - http://www.gcrleicester.info/html/nottingham.html

Sadly the site of Arkwright Street station was flattened and redeveloped in the 1970s, hence the tram taking a meandering route and crossing the river on a centuries-old pedestrian footbridge.

An interesting fact, the new bridge will use the same foundations
as the original bridge. The piles were left in place when the original
bridge was removed.
One is at the side of station street next to the station boundary, the
other in the centre of the buildings on platform 4.
This is because Nottingham midland was built after the GCR so the
platform building was built around the bridge support.
