I recently saw part of Video125s Wessex electric DVD filmed in 1994. After the 5WES has passed through Clapham Junction it catches up with, and passes an 8 car class 455. The second vehicle from the front appears to have swing plug doors that are flush with the bodywork (the windows in the doors are slightly larger too) rather than slightly recessed sliding doors. I took a rather poor quality screen shot and have attached it.

I had no idea that a 455 vehicle had been fitted with swing doors, anyone have any idea why the work was done and when?

Great! Thanks for the link.

Also good to know I wasn't imagining it :)
