Was given this leaflet about Nuclear Trains passing through Stratford and the London area containing chemicals which if emmitted could release nuclear gas and spread for miles. Basically the point these people are trying to make is to ban Flask Trains running in London all together to stop the risk of this occuring.

I will attach an image later once I resize it, etc.

Cheers TC, anyway I believe that there is real no threat because the times of the flasks change all the timer as well as the days they run for instance the Bradwell (Southminster) Flask has run Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays.

do they know they would need a nuclear warhead to get to the Nucs stuff inside anyway?

It could even budge when a peak at a ton hit it, so a couple of guys trying to pick at it with a shovel aint going to do much are they?

The Nuclear Flask trains run when they are required. A terrorist has to plan months even years in advance to do an attack and still they wouldn't know if the train would run the day they think. Anyway, I thought the flasks could withstand nearly anything that hit them!

Would they like them transported by road I wonder?

Also, are they giving terrorists ideas?

I think Yorkie has hit the idea head on basically yesterday they were trying to get the trains BANNED from passing through the Stratford area.

They don't appear to care about the rest of the country (as usual) - but only about London?

I don't know if anyone else has seen the vido at the NRM, but they hit a nuclear flask with a peak and it was left intact.

they've done loads of test with the flask. they've dropped it from some great height, onto its corner, and the worst that happend was a very very small spray of water came out, which was harmless.

More news recieved apparently they plan to re-route the Flasks from Sizewell and Southminster via Peterborough and ECML. However the Southminster would have to reverse meaning a Top and Tailed formation...

Why is a flask more dangerous when it's in Stratford rather than Peterborough?

Because Londoners consider themselves more important than any one else in the world? :?: :?: :?:

BTW I too have seen the video of the 'peak into a flask' and impressive it is too. There is no way that even a determined terrorist could get into one of those things

If i took my camera to the level crossing near me to film some of the stock and that train comes along, i hop they at least pay for a new camera when they shoot at it.

I've seen it, they used 46009 and 46023 was the spare one.

To hell with the peak, what about the driver. Hope was paid 12 for that!! ;)

Well if the NIMBYs are getting their knickers in a twist, lets move the stuff by road then.

Flasks have been running around for at least twenty years now with no instances of any radioactive release.

The AEA Constabulary (they have a new name, can't remember whats its called) occasionnaly travel on them anyway.

Whenever fuel rods from submarine reactors are conveyed, they always have an armed escort.

Got some nice pics of these moves, but if i showed you them i would have to kill you immediately afterwards.

While I can't deny this :P. I think its basically because Stratford is more built up than Peterborough. From a residential point of view, there are more people in Stratford more at risk than some parts of Peterborough, if something like this was to happen.

Flasks are safer by rail, if they were run by road they'd be a lot less secure and have had more accidents

The peak was modified so they had a solebar-level lever which someone turned "on" a few miles down the line and then they stood back and watched the train accelerate.

They used to have brakevans until '97, but now no longer need them. BTW, does *any* traffic these days need brakevans?

Incidently, why was it decided Brakevans were no longer needed?

I think they were put on with police to keep the NIMBYs and environmentalists (who think that wind power will keep the country running - not unless it goes up John Prescott's backside!) quiet. However, they now IIRC travel in the locomotive. Might also have something to do with extra collision resistance at the back.

At 5pm today i saw the nuclear train pass my house near witham station this is what it was comp[rised of in this order:

1EWS class 66
1 green Mk1
The flask
1 green Mk1
1 Ews Class 66

This is just getting stupid now. 2 mark1 coaches and 2 diesels now?

May be for extra protection. Top 'n' tailing would most definately help, two locos often were on nuclear work (suppose they don't want it lingering if there's a breakdown) and perhaps the Mk1s (were they BSKs?) were put in as extra protection after the 7th July.

When they come past me, they are usually a combination of 2 or 3 DRS cl20, 33 or 37 double/tripple headed and then a load of flasks. There is nothing at the back normally.
