It's probably not well known that there was a north/east curve at Rillington called the Scampston Curve which joined the York - Scarborough line at Scampston Junction and allowed the possibility of Whitby - Pickering - Scarborough trains before the Pickering - Seamer line via Forge Valley was opened. I think it was only used for 5 years or less but the base of Scampston Junction signalbox was still there in 1980. You can just make the Curve out on Google Earth.
