Maidenhead platform 1 has a locked gate which is opened when trains stop there.. which is infrequent but regular. Which station is likely to be the rarest use of a locked platform? Is there a way of working this out?

New Malden platforms 2 and 3. No booked use, but occasionally during severe perturbation.

There are plenty of platforms which see less use than Maidenhead platform 1. Some are only used when engineering work dictates use of the fast lines through a station for stopping services. Apart from the point raised about New Malden, which is probably a good example, others with very infrequent use would be places like Purley Oaks and South Croydon where two-track railway closing the fast lines is generally only at weekends.

There are gates on fast line platforms at Earlsfield and Wimbledon too. I think they have passenger release handles as occasionally trains get diverted to fast lines at short notice, so has to be way of exiting platforms for those alighting.

Bushey P3... Although this is like Peartree, where you need to be buzzed in.

Wimbledon gets (got anyway) regular fast line calls on Sundays

Most stations with gated off platforms have handles on the platform side in case trains call there unexpectedly. Certainly true of those on the GWML out to Cholsey, many of which normally only get used during relief line engineering works.

And out of Euston, there are several stations with 'fast' platforms that are rarely used. In addition to the previously mentioned Wembley C, there's Queens Park and Harrow & Wealdstone.

Ones I can think of on the ECML that have platforms on the fast lines gated off are Knebworth, Brookmans Park, New Barnet, Oakleigh Park and New Southgate.

Of course there are whole stations not normally used so presumably locked off, such as Newbury Racecourse. Aberdare was another example prior to the line reopening as it had been retained for excursions.

Newbury Racecourse gets an hourly service with extras in the peaks, no barriers on the little used loop platform.

---------------

Hither Green platform 1 springs to mind as probably a gated platform which is very rarely used for stopping trains?

Already posted on another thread, but P2 at Aberdeen (which is behind a locked gate) was opened on Saturday for the arrival of 60163 Tornado on the Aberdonian steam special from Edinburgh.

Rear 3 coaches off the end of the platform.

Newbury Racecourse has a regular service?
Has had for about 25 years.

Family actually used to use it back in the distant past; well-known were the first class specials from Paddington which used to use the old GWR Ocean Saloons on key racing days, but a special was also run from Exeter and Taunton (I guess it started at Newton Abbot) direct to the racecourse station. It was considered a Grand Day Out.

I was once let off a fast First Capital Connect service at the New Barnet fast line platform due to disruption. Opted to walk to High Barnet to pick up the Northern Line into the city from there.
